How to uninstall the Tidings adware from your operating system
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Tidings?
Our research team discovered an installer containing the Tidings application while inspecting deceptive websites. After analyzing this app, we determined that it is advertising-supported software (adware). Tidings operates by displaying ads, and it may have additional harmful abilities.
Tidings adware overview
Adware is designed to run intrusive advertisement campaigns. In other words, this software enables the placement of ads on various interfaces. These adverts endorse online scams, unreliable/harmful software, and malware. Some intrusive ads are even capable of performing stealthy downloads/installations upon being clicked.
It must be stressed that any genuine product or services encountered through these advertisements – are most likely promoted by scammers abusing their affiliate programs in order to obtain illegitimate commissions.
Advertising-supported software may need specific conditions to deliver intrusive advert campaigns, such as compatible browser/system or user geolocation, visits to particular websites, and so on. However, regardless of whether Tidings displays adverts or not – its presence on a system threatens device integrity and user safety.
Furthermore, it is likely that Tidings has data-tracking functionalities. Adware usually collects the following data: browsing and search engine histories, Internet cookies, usernames/passwords, personally identifiable details, finance-related information, etc. The gathered data can be sold to third-parties or otherwise abused for profit.
In summary, the presence of software like Tidings on devices can result in system infections, severe privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft.

Adware examples
We have inspected countless adware samples; Fast Downloader, Ads Buster, Music – are merely a few of our latest finds.
Advertising-supported software usually appears legitimate and offers "handy" functionalities. However, the functions seldom work as promised, and in most cases – they are utterly nonoperational. Keep in mind that even if a piece of software operates as indicated by its promotional material – that is not a guarantee of its legitimacy or safety.
How did Tidings install on my computer?
We downloaded an installer bundled with Tidings from a deceptive website. In addition to such sites, adware often has "official" promotional webpages. Most users access such pages via redirects caused by misspelled URLs, sites using rogue advertising networks, spam browser notifications, intrusive ads, or installed adware (with browser force-opening abilities).
Intrusive advertisements proliferate advertising-supported software as well. Once clicked on, some of these adverts can execute scripts to perform downloads/installations without user permission.
"Bundling" – packing ordinary program installation setups with unwanted/malicious additions – is also used to distribute adware. Downloading from dubious channels (e.g., freeware and third-party websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, etc.) and rushing through installation processes (e.g., using "Easy/Quick" settings, etc.) – increase the risk of allowing bundled content into the system.
How to avoid installation of adware?
We strongly advise researching software and downloading only from official/verified sources. It is essential to approach installation with caution, which entails reading terms, inspecting available options, using the "Custom/Advanced" settings, and opting out of all supplementary apps, extensions, features, etc.
Another recommendation is to be careful while browsing since fake and malicious online content typically appears legitimate and harmless. For example, intrusive ads may look innocuous yet redirect to highly questionable sites (e.g., adult dating, pornography, gambling, etc.).
In case of encounters with advertisements and/or redirects of this kind, inspect the system and immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with Tidings, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
