How to remove the ResolutionProduct adware from your operating system
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is ResolutionProduct?
ResolutionProduct is a rogue application, which our researchers discovered while inspecting new submissions to VirusTotal. After analyzing ResolutionProduct, we determined that it operates as advertising-supported software (adware). Additionally, this app is part of the AdLoad malware family.
ResolutionProduct adware overview
Adware displays advertisements on visited sites and/or different interfaces. The ads push online scams, unreliable/hazardous websites and software, and even malware. Once clicked on, some intrusive adverts can make downloads/installations without user permission.
It has to be mentioned that any genuine products encountered through these ads are unlikely to be promoted by their actual developers. Instead, this endorsement is undertaken by scammers abusing the products' affiliate programs to acquire illegitimate commissions.
However, even if ResolutionProduct does not deliver advertisements - it still poses threats to device integrity and user safety. Advertising-supported software might not operate as designed if the browser/system or user geolocation are incompatible, visits to specific sites are not made, or other conditions are unsuitable.
Furthermore, AdLoad adware commonly has browser hijacker qualities, which might apply to ResolutionProduct. However, this application did not exhibit any such traits during testing.
What is more, ResolutionProduct likely has data tracking abilities. Advertising-supported software tends to collect visited URLs, viewed pages, searched queries, usernames/passwords, personally identifiable details, credit card numbers, and so forth. The gathered information is monetized through sale to third-parties (potentially, cyber criminals).
To summarize, the presence of software like ResolutionProduct on devices can lead to system infections, serious privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft.

Adware examples
We have analyzed thousands of adware samples; AllocateClassics, OrionRound, and SampleFormat are merely a couple of examples. This software typically appears genuine and offers "useful" features. However, these functionalities rarely work as promised, and in most cases - they are utterly nonoperational.
How did ResolutionProduct install on my computer?
Adware can have "official" download webpages, and it is promoted on scam sites. Users typically enter websites of this kind through redirects caused by pages that use rogue advertising networks, spam browser notifications, misspelled URLs, spam browser notifications, intrusive adverts, or installed adware (with browser force-opening capabilities).
Additionally, fake Adobe Flash Player updaters/installers proliferate advertising-supported software. Intrusive advertisements are used in distribution as well. When clicked on, these ads can execute scripts to perform stealthy downloads/installations.
Adware can also be bundled (packed together) with regular programs. Download from dubious channels (e.g., unofficial and free file-hosting websites, P2P sharing networks, etc.) and rushed installations increase the risk of inadvertently permitting bundled content into the device.
How to avoid installation of adware?
We strongly recommend downloading from official and trustworthy sources. We advise caution when installing, i.e., reading terms, studying possible options, using the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings, and opting-out of all additions.
Another recommendation is to be vigilant when browsing since illegitimate and malicious content typically appears harmless. For example, intrusive ads look ordinary yet redirect to highly questionable websites (e.g., pornography, gambling, adult-dating, etc.).
In case of encounters with such advertisements/redirects, inspect the device and immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with ResolutionProduct, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What harm can adware cause?
Adware can decrease browsing quality and system performance. It is also considered to be a privacy threat, as this software usually collects sensitive data. Furthermore, adware-delivered ads can be dangerous and cause severe issues (e.g., system infections, financial losses, etc.).
What does adware do?
Adware operates by displaying adverts on visited webpages and/or other interfaces. Some types can also force-open websites and gather private data.
How do adware developers generate revenue?
Most of the profit is generated via affiliate programs by promoting various sites, apps, products, services, etc. Adware developers might earn commission from ad clicks, website visits, file downloads, product purchases, service subscriptions, or similar.
Will Combo Cleaner remove ResolutionProduct adware?
Yes, Combo Cleaner is capable of scanning your devices and eliminating the adware-type applications installed. Note that manual removal (unaided by security programs) might be ineffective. Since despite the advertising-supported software having been (manually) removed - various components (files) may remain hidden in the system. These remnants can continue running and causing issues. Hence, it is paramount to eliminate adware thoroughly.
