Removing the EntrySample adware from your operating system
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on
What is EntrySample?
EntrySample is a piece of rogue software that we discovered while checking out new submissions to VirusTotal. After analyzing this application, we determined that it is adware belonging to the AdLoad malware family.
EntrySample adware overview
Adware enables the placement of advertisements on visited websites and/or other interfaces. These adverts endorse online scams, untrustworthy/harmful sites and software, and even malware. Furthermore, some intrusive ads are capable of stealthily downloading/installing software upon being clicked.
Note that any legitimate products encountered via these advertisements are highly unlikely to be promoted by their developers. This endorsement is undertaken by scammers who abuse the products' affiliate programs to obtain illegitimate commissions.
Advertising-supported software may require certain conditions to run intrusive ad campaigns (e.g., compatible browser/system, visits to specific websites, etc.). However, regardless of whether EntrySample displays adverts - its presence endangers device and user safety.
What is more, EntrySample may have browser hijacker functionalities, and it likely collects private data. We did not observe this app exhibiting any browser-hijacking abilities.
Adware usually collects browsing and search engine histories, usernames/passwords, personally identifiable details, credit card numbers, etc. The gathered data is then monetized via sale to third-parties.
To summarize, the presence of advertising-supported software like EntrySample on devices can lead to system infections, serious privacy issues, financial losses, and identity theft.

Adware examples
WirelessZipServer, EfficiencyInternet, HorizonFlower, and ConditionAnalysts are merely some examples of the adware that we have analyzed recently.
This software looks harmless and offers "handy" and "advantageous" features. However, these functions seldom work as promised. Therefore, not only is adware useless, but it also threatens device integrity and user privacy.
How did EntrySample install on my computer?
Adware can be bundled (packed together) with regular programs. Download from untrustworthy sources (e.g., unofficial and freeware websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, etc.) and rushed installations increase the risk of permitting bundled content into the device.
Fake Adobe Flash Player updaters/installers are used in distribution as well. Additionally, intrusive adverts proliferate this software. When clicked on, some of the advertisements can execute scripts to perform downloads/installations without user consent.
Advertising-supported software is also promoted on questionable download webpages and scam sites. Most users enter these pages through redirects caused by misspelled URLs, websites using rogue advertising networks, spam browser notifications, intrusive ads, or installed adware (with webpage force-opening abilities).
How to avoid installation of adware?
We strongly recommend researching software and downloading only from official and verified channels. Furthermore, installation processes must be approached with care, e.g., by reading terms, studying available options, using the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings, and opting-out of all additions.
We advise being cautious when browsing since fraudulent and malicious content typically appears legitimate. For example, intrusive adverts look innocuous - however, they redirect to unreliable/dubious sites (e.g., gambling, adult-dating, pornography, etc.).
If you experience advertisements and/or redirects of this kind, check the system and immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with EntrySample, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What harm can adware cause?
Adware endangers device integrity and user safety. It can diminish the browsing experience and system performance. This software usually has data tracking abilities, which makes it a privacy threat. Furthermore, adware-delivered ads can be deceptive/malicious and cause serious problems (e.g., system infections, financial losses, etc.).
What does adware do?
Adware is designed to display adverts on visited sites and/or other interfaces. It may also be capable of causing redirects and collecting sensitive information.
How do adware developers generate revenue?
Most of the profit comes from affiliate programs by endorsing various websites, apps, products, services, etc. Adware developers can earn commission from ad clicks, site visits, file downloads, product purchases, service subscriptions, or similar.
Will Combo Cleaner remove EntrySample adware?
Yes, Combo Cleaner is capable of scanning systems and eliminating detected adware-type apps. It is pertinent to mention that manual removal (unaided by security software) might be ineffective. In some instances, even after the adware has been (manually) removed - various remnants (files) stay hidden within the system. What is more, these components can continue running and causing issues. Therefore, it is crucial to remove advertising-supported software thoroughly.
