How to remove QuantityExact adware and the ads it delivers
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on
What is QuantityExact?
QuantityExact is an adware-type application that our researchers discovered while looking through new submissions to VirusTotal. We also learned that this piece of software belongs to the AdLoad malware family.
QuantityExact adware overview
Adware can require certain conditions to be met to run intrusive advert campaigns (display ads), which likely applies to QuantityExact. For example, advertising-supported software may not deliver advertisement campaigns unless the browser/system specs or user geolocation are compatible, particular websites are visited, or similar.
However, regardless of whether QuantityExact (or other adware) displays adverts or not - its presence on a system endangers device and user safety.
Adware-delivered advertisements promote untrustworthy/hazardous sites and software, scams, and even malware. Furthermore, some intrusive ads can be triggered (by being clicked on) to download/install software without user permission.
While legitimate products may be endorsed by adware, it is unlikely that the genuine developers use or approve of this advertising technique. Instead, scammers who abuse affiliate programs commonly employ this method to obtain illegitimate commissions.
QuantityExact may have browser hijacker qualities, as they are typical for AdLoad adware; however, it did not exhibit any during testing.
What is more, QuantityExact may have data tracking functionalities. Advertising-supported software usually targets browsing and search engine histories, personally identifiable details, banking data, and so forth. The gathered data is shared with and/or sold to third-parties.
In summary, the presence of software like QuantityExact on devices can result in system infections, severe privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft.

Adware examples
EnumeratorConnectivity, SmartTransaction, and KernelReproduce are just a couple examples of the adware we have analyzed. This software appears legitimate and offers "useful" features. However, these functions rarely work as advertised, and in most cases - they do not work at all.
How did QuantityExact install on my computer?
Adware can be bundled together with ordinary programs. Download from untrustworthy channels (e.g., unofficial and free file-hosting sites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, etc.) and rushed installations - increase the risk of unintentionally allowing bundled content into the system.
Fake Adobe Flash Player updaters/installers are also used in distribution. Additionally, once clicked on, intrusive advertisements may stealthily download/install advertising-supported software.
Adware can have "official" promotional/download webpages, which are typically accessed inadvertently. Most users enter them via mistyped URLs or redirects caused by intrusive ads, websites using rogue advertising networks, spam browser notifications, or installed adware (with browser force-opening capabilities).
How to avoid installation of adware?
We strongly advise researching software and only downloading from official/verified sources. Furthermore, installation processes must be approached with caution, e.g., reading terms, studying available options, using the "Custom/Advanced" settings, and opting-out of all additions.
We also recommend being vigilant while browser, as fraudulent and malicious content tends to look harmless. For example, intrusive adverts appear innocuous yet redirect to unreliable/questionable websites (e.g., gambling, adult-dating, pornography, etc.).
If you experience such advertisements and/or redirects, check the system and immediately remove all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with QuantityExact, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
