How to remove the Togosearching browser hijacker?
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on
What is Togosearching?
Togosearching is a browser hijacker. It operates by making changes to browser settings in order to promote (by causing redirects to) the togosearching.com fake search engine. Additionally, Togosearching likely has data tracking abilities used to spy on users' browsing habits. Since most users download/install browser hijackers unintentionally, they are also categorized as PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications).
Togosearching browser hijacker in detail
Browser hijackers reassign browsers' homepage, default search engine, and new tab/window URLs - to fake web searcher addresses. Togosearching modifies browsers in this manner as well. Hence, with it installed: search queries typed into the URL bar and new browser tabs/windows opened - redirect to togosearching.com.
Fraudulent search engines are seldom capable of generating search results, so they redirect to (or cause redirection chains ending with) Google, Bing, Yahoo, and other genuine ones. Togosearching.com is not an exception to this; it redirects to the Bing (bing.com) search engine.
Furthermore, browser hijackers can undo any changes users try to make to their browsers and/or restrict/deny access to the setting outright. Therefore, restoring an affected browser is impossible without eliminating the software hijacking it. What is more, most browser hijackers have data tracking functionalities.
Browser hijackers can record browsing activity (URLs visited, webpages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and collect sensitive information extracted from it (IP addresses/geolocations, personally identifiable details, etc.). The gathered data is then monetized by being shared with and/or sold to third-parties.
In summary, the presence of data-tracking software on devices can lead to serious privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft. To protect device integrity and user privacy, all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins must be removed immediately upon detection.

Browser hijackers in general
YourSearchConverter, RadioSearchPro, and MyShopSearch are a couple examples of browser hijackers. They look legitimate and innocuous. Browser hijackers offer a wide variety of "handy" functionalities. However, the features seldom work as promised, and in most cases - they do not work at all.
In fact, practically all PUAs lure users into download/installation with fake functions. The only goal of unwanted apps is to generate profit for the developers. Therefore, instead of delivering on any promises, PUAs can hijack browsers, cause redirects, run intrusive advertisement campaigns (adware), and collect private information.
How did Togosearching install on my computer?
Some PUAs (e.g., Togosearching) have "official" promotional sites from which they can be downloaded. Intrusive advertisements are used to proliferate this software as well. Once clicked on, the ads can execute scripts to make stealthy downloads/installations.
PUAs are also distributed via downloaders/installers of other programs. This false marketing method of packing regular products with unwanted or malicious additions - is termed "bundling". Rushed download/installation processes (e.g., used "Easy/Express" settings, etc.) - increase the risk of allowing bundled content into the device.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is recommended to research software prior to download/installation. Additionally, all downloads must be done from official and verified sources. Untrustworthy download channels, e.g., unofficial and freeware websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, and other third-party downloaders - offer bundled content.
When downloading/installing, it is important to read terms, explore possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings, and opt-out from additional apps, tools, features, and so forth. Intrusive adverts appear legitimate; however, they redirect to highly questionable sites (e.g., gambling, pornography, adult-dating, etc.).
In case of encounters with such ads and/or redirects, the device must be checked and all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected - removed from it without delay. If your computer is already infected with Togosearching, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
