How to uninstall RemoteView adware?
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is RemoteView?
RemoteView generates revenue for its developer by generating advertisements. Software that displays unwanted advertisements is called adware. It is uncommon for apps of this type to be downloaded and installed knowingly, intentionally. Apps that users download and install unknowingly are called potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
Usually, PUAs are distributed in questionable ways. For example, through fake installers. It is important to mention that RemoteView can read sensitive information. Also, it changes web browser settings to promote a fake search engine. In other words, it functions as a browser hijacker.
RemoteView in detail
Typically, apps like RemoteView display ads through banners, pop-up windows, coupons, or other forms. It is not recommended to click ads displayed by an app like RemoteView - adware can show untrustworthy ads designed to open potentially malicious websites or to run certain scripts to cause unexpected downloads, installations.
As mentioned in the introduction, RemoteView can read sensitive information from websites. More precisely, this app can read passwords, phone numbers, credit card details (and possibly other data). Data collected by apps like RemoteView may be sold to third parties, used to hijack online accounts, make fraudulent purchases, transactions, steal identities.
It is worth mentioning that apps like RemoteView often are designed to collect IP addresses, entered search queries, geolocations, visited websites, and other information related to browsing habits. In one way or another, it is not safe to have PUAs that collect information installed on web browsers or computers - it could lead to various problems.
Additionally, RemoteView changes web browser settings such as the address of a default search engine, homepage, and new tab. This app changes them to an address of a fake search engine. Typically, fake search engines show results generated by other (legitimate or untrustworthy) search engines.
In order to revert the aforementioned changes it is necessary to uninstall a browser hijacker (in this case, RemoteView). It is because apps of this type often are designed to keep their settings unchangeable while they are installed. Instructions on how to remove apps of this kind are provided below.

More adware examples are IndexerProject, FlexibleSearch, and NetworkSync.
How did RemoteView install on my computer?
It is common for adware-type applications and other PUAs to be distributed through downloaders or installers for other programs. In such cases, apps of this kind are included in downloaders, installers as optional offers. When users download and install programs without changing certain settings during their download or installation processes, they agree to unwanted offers.
Usually, offers to download or install included apps can be declined in "Advanced", "Custom", "Manual" or other settings or by unticking ticked checkboxes that downloaders, installers have. It is worthwhile to mention that potentially unwanted applications are distributed together with free programs (freeware).
In some cases, users unknowingly download or install unwanted apps by clicking deceptive ads that are designed to execute certain scripts. As a rule, those advertisements appear only on questionable, untrustworthy websites. Either way, those ads should be avoided.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is advisable not to use third-party downloaders (and installers), shady websites, Peer-to-Peer networks (like torrent clients, eMule), to download or install programs, files. It is common that users of the aforementioned sources download PUAs or even malicious apps. It is recommended to use official websites and direct links.
Downloaders and installers that have some settings should be examined. It is common that they are used to distribute PUAs. Typically, users can deselect optional apps via "Advanced", "Custom", "Manual" or other settings, options. Advertisements on unreliable pages should not be trusted. Those ads can open potentially malicious pages. In some cases, they can run scripts designed to cause downloads, installations.
