How to remove software causing redirects to the news-joruca.cc site?

Also Known As: news-joruca.cc pop-up
Damage level: Medium

What is the news-joruca[.]cc site?

News-joruca[.]cc is a rogue website sharing many similarities with flashymass.com, profitsurvey365.online, ndconsiderat.biz, and countless others. This page is designed to present visitors with questionable content and/or redirect them to different unreliable or possibly malicious sites.

Rogue webpages are usually accessed unintentionally. Most users get redirected to them by intrusive adverts or installed PUAs (Potentially Unwanted Applications). This software can infiltrate systems without explicit permission; hence, users may be unaware of its presence. PUAs operate by causing redirects, running intrusive advertisement campaigns, and gathering browsing-related data.

News-joruca[.]cc in detail

Once accessed, the first thing the news-joruca[.]cc site does is check the visitor's IP (Internet Protocol) address to learn their geolocation. This information determines the webpage's further behavior. In other words, whether visitors are presented with dubious material and/or get redirected elsewhere - depends on their geolocations.

Additionally, most rogue pages use clickbait, fake CAPTCHA verification, and other deceptive statements/content to trick users into enabling their browser notifications. This applies to news-joruca[.]cc as well, and should its notifications be allowed - the website will start delivering intrusive advert campaigns.

The delivered advertisements are more than just a minor nuisance, they also endanger device and user safety. They promote various untrustworthy, deceptive/scam, and malicious sites. Furthermore, when clicked on - some intrusive ads can be triggered to execute scripts designed to download/install software (e.g., PUAs) without user consent.

How do potentially unwanted applications operate?

PUAs can have different heinous functionalities, which can be in varied combinations. For example, these apps can force-open websites and/or deliver intrusive advert campaigns. Most PUAs also have data tracking abilities. They monitor browsing activity (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and collect sensitive information extracted from it (IP addresses/ geolocations, personally identifiable details, etc.). The collected data is then monetized by being shared with and/or sold to third-parties.

To summarize, the presence of unwanted software on devices can lead to system infections, severe privacy issues, financial losses, and even identity theft. Therefore, it is strongly advised to remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately upon detection.

Potentially unwanted applications in general

PUAs typically appear legitimate and innocuous. Users are lured into download/installation and/or purchase with offers of various functionalities. However, despite how good the advertised features may sound - they are rarely operational.

The sole purpose of unwanted software is to generate revenue for the developers; to users - they have no real value. Instead of delivering on any promises, PUAs can cause redirects, run intrusive advertisement campaigns, and collect private and vulnerable information.

How did adware install on my computer?

PUAs are distributed via downloaders/installers of other software. This false marketing tactic of packing regular programs with unwanted or malicious additions - is termed "bundling". Rushed download/installation processes (e.g., ignored terms, skipped steps and sections, etc.) increase the risk of allowing bundled content into the device, thereby endangering the system with potential infections.

PUAs may also have "official" promotional webpages from which they can be downloaded and/or purchased. These applications are proliferated through intrusive adverts as well. Once clicked on, the advertisements can execute scripts to make stealthy downloads/installations.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

It is highly recommended to research software prior to download/installation and/or purchase. Furthermore, all downloads must be performed from official and verified sources. Untrustworthy download channels, e.g., unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, and other third-party downloaders - commonly offer bundled and/or dangerous content. When downloading/installing, it is advised to read terms, study available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings, and opt-out from additional apps, tools, features, and so forth.

It is just as important to exercise caution when browsing. Intrusive ads appear ordinary and harmless; however, they redirect to questionable sites (e.g., pornography, adult-dating, gambling, etc.). In case of encounters with such advertisements and/or redirects, the system must be checked and all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins detected - removed from it immediately. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
