How to remove apps that open yourwownewz.com and similar web pages
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is yourwownewz[.]com?
yourwownewz[.]com is similar to many other bogus websites including, for example, webquizspot[.]com, enhesita[.]online and dozki[.]pro. If visited, these pages open other untrusted sites or load dubious content.
People often visit these sites unintentionally. Typically, browsers open these pages when potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) are installed on them.
In most cases, pages such as yourwownewz[.]com load dubious content or open about two or three other dubious pages. They often use 'clickbait' techniques to trick visitors into clicking the "Allow" button, which allows websites to show notifications. This particular site states that visors must click the button to continue watching a video. Generally, when pages such as yourwownewz[.]com get permission to show notifications, they start to show notifications that contain deceptive advertisements, links to untrusted pages, and other dubious content.
PUAs (apps that open pages such as yourwownewz[.]com) can also generate coupons, surveys, banners, pop-ups and other types of ads. If clicked, these can open untrusted pages or even cause download/installation of unwanted apps by executing running scripts.
Furthermore, PUAs can be designed to collect browsing data such as IP addresses, geolocations, addresses of visited pages, entered search queries, and other browsing-related details. In some cases, they record sensitive, confidential details. The data is monetized by selling it to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or in other ways.
Therefore, users who have PUAs installed on browsers and/or computers might encounter issues relating to online privacy, browsing safety, or they might even become victims of identity theft.

Note that potentially unwanted applications are often advertised as legitimate, useful software. In fact, most are designed only to generate revenue for the developers and are useless to regular users. PUAs are often downloaded and installed by users intentionally.
How did adware install on my computer?
PUAs are distributed via download/installation set-ups of other products. This deceptive marketing tactic of packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions is called "bundling".
Rushing download/installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps and settings, etc.) increases the risk of inadvertently allowing bundled content into the system.
Some PUAs have "official" download sites. Intrusive advertisements proliferate these applications as well. Once clicked, they can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without users' consent.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download software and files from official websites and via direct links. It is not safe to use torrent clients, eMule (or other Peer-to-Peer networks), third party downloaders, unofficial websites or other sources of this kind.
Avoid third party installers. Check "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings, and decline offers to download or install unwanted software. Do not click ads that are displayed on dubious websites, since they can open other untrusted websites or even cause unwanted downloads and installations.
Remove any unwanted, suspicious applications (extensions, add-ons, and plug-ins) that are installed on the browser. The same should be applied to programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system.
Regularly scan your computer with reputable antivirus or anti-spyware software and keep this software up to date.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
