How to stop redirects to and from thedailynews.report website
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is thedailynews[.]report?
thedailynews[.]report is a rogue website sharing many similarities with yourtopnews.com, news-back.net, locompany.club, and countless others. Visitors to this site are presented with dubious content and/or are redirected to other untrusted or possibly malicious web pages.
Typically, these sites are accessed via redirects caused by intrusive advertisements or by Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs) already infiltrated into the system. This software does not need explicit user consent to be installed on the device. PUAs cause redirects, deliver intrusive ad campaigns and collect browsing-related information.
thedailynews[.]report first checks visitors' IP addresses to learn their geolocations. This information is key to determining the website's further course of action. I.e., whether visitors are presented with dubious material and/or are redirected elsewhere depends on their geolocations.
Furthermore, thedailynews[.]report uses browser notifications. If these notifications are enabled, the site will be allowed to run intrusive ad campaigns. I.e., start delivering various annoying, harmful ads. As well as being a nuisance, the delivered advertisements are a threat to device/user safety.
When clicked, they can redirect to dubious/malicious web pages and some can even stealthily download/install software (e.g. PUAs). These unwanted applications can have various functionality and the functions can be in different combinations. PUAs can force-open dangerous sites and/or run intrusive advertisement campaigns.
Furthermore, most PUAs can track data. This software monitors browsing activity (visited URLs, viewed pages, searched queries, etc.) and collects personal information extracted from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). The gathered data is then monetized by sharing with and/or selling to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals).
To summarize, the presence of unwanted apps on devices can lead to system infections, serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identity theft. To protect device integrity and user privacy, all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins must be removed without delay.

PUAs may seem legitimate and harmless, and users are often lured into download/installation and/or purchase with offers of "useful" functionality, however, the features rarely work as advertised and, in most cases, do not work at all. The only purpose of this unwanted software is to generate revenue for the developers.
Rather than delivering any real value, PUAs can cause redirects, run intrusive ad campaigns, gather sensitive and personally identifiable information.
How did adware install on my computer?
Browser hijackers, adware-type apps, and other types of PUAs are commonly distributed by integrating them into the download and/or installation set-ups of other programs, so that a proportion of users inadvertently download and install them together with their chosen software.
This distribution method is known as "bundling". Offers to download and install additionally-included apps usually appear in "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings of the set-ups (where they can usually be declined). Many users fail to check and change these settings, thereby granting permission for PUAs to be downloaded and installed by default.
In addition, unwanted downloads and installations are sometimes caused by clicking deceptive advertisements capable of executing certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised to research all software before download/installation. Use only official and verified download channels. Unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks (BitTorrent, Gnutella, eMule), and other third party downloaders commonly offer harmful and bundled content, and are therefore untrusted and should be avoided.
When downloading/installing, read the terms, study all possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, features, and so on. Intrusive advertisements typically seem legitimate, however, they can redirect to dubious and malicious sites (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, and many others).
If you encounter ads or redirects of this kind, inspect the system and remove all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
