How to uninstall Ecogreen APP
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Ecogreen APP?
Ecogreen APP is a browser hijacker, which promotes tailsearch.com, the address of a fake search engine. Generally, browser hijackers promote specific addresses by modifying browser settings. Additionally, Ecogreen APP collects search queries that users enter whilst browsing the web.
Commonly, apps of this type also gather other browsing-related information. Many users download and install browser hijackers inadvertently and, therefore, they are categorized as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
In most cases, browser hijackers change browser settings such as the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab.
In fact, research shows that Ecogreen APP does not actually change these settings to tailsearch.com, however, it detects when users enter search queries into the URL bar or search field and loads results from search.yahoo.com, bing.com or google.com (this depends on users' geolocations) via tailsearch.com.
When Ecogreen APP displays results generated by Google via tailsearch.com, it also collects entered search queries. In cases where it displays results by Bing and Yahoo, it generates revenue for the developers through the affiliate program offered by the specific search engine.
In any case, tailsearch.com is a fake search engine, which does not generate any unique results and is, therefore, useless to regular users. Typically, browser hijackers do not allow users to remove specific addresses from the aforementioned settings.
Therefore, tailsearch.com can be stopped from being opened/removed from settings when Ecogreen APP is no longer installed on the browser. As mentioned, apps of this type often collect other details relating to users' browsing habits. For example, geolocations, IP addresses, URLs of visited websites, etc.
In some cases, they can gather sensitive data. Developers of the browser hijacker might misuse collected data to generate revenue by selling it to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) or in other ways. This can lead to problems relating to browsing safety, online privacy or even identity theft.
Therefore, Ecogreen APP and other apps of this type should never be trusted, downloaded, or installed.

There are many browser hijackers available for download on the internet. Some other examples are Easy Print Recipes, MyNewsFree and MusicStreamSearch. After installation they do not improve the browsing experience or provide any useful features.
On the contrary, apps of this type are designed only to generate revenue for the developers and can cause serious problems.
How did Ecogreen APP install on my computer?
People often download and install browser hijackers and/or other PUAs when they are distributed by including them into the set-ups of other programs as 'additional offers'. This PUA distribution method is called "bundling". Generally, offers to download and install additional apps can be found and declined in "Custom", "Advanced" and other settings.
These apps often infiltrate when users fail to check and change these settings. In some cases, unwanted downloads and installations are caused by clicking dubious, deceptive ads that execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Commonly, third party downloaders, installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (eMule, torrent clients), unofficial pages and other similar download or installation tools/channels are used to distribute unwanted software. For these reasons, programs and files should be downloaded only from official pages and via direct links.
Download and installation set-ups often include offers to download or install various apps. Check all "Advanced" and "Custom" settings and decline the additional offers. Do not click ads that are displayed on dubious pages, since they can open various untrusted, potentially malicious pages.
In some cases, they can cause download/installation of unwanted software. Remove any, suspicious extensions, add-ons and plug-ins installed on the browser.
Also remove programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with Ecogreen APP, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
