How to remove the Jam Box Search browser hijacker
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Jam Box Search?
Jam Box Search reassigns certain browser settings to feed.jamboxlive.com (the address of a fake search engine). Commonly, browser hijackers are designed to promote fake search engines and collect data relating to users' browsing habits. People often download and install these apps inadvertently and, therefore, they are categorized as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
Jam Box Search changes the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab to feed.jamboxlive.com. In this way, it forces users to visit feed.jamboxlive.com when they open a browser, new tab, or enter search queries into the URL bar. When used to search, feed.jamboxlive.com redirects users to search.yahoo.com and simply displays results generated by Yahoo.
I.e., it does not generate unique results and hence why this search engine is classified as fake. To remove feed.jamboxlive.com from browser settings, users must uninstall Jam Box Search, since these apps prevent modification of the aforementioned settings whilst they are installed.
Another reason to uninstall any browser hijackers is that they often collect user-system information. They usually target browsing data (e.g., IP addresses, geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited pages), however, some browser hijackers also target sensitive data.
The developers can misuse the data to generate revenue by selling it to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals), or in other ways. This can lead to problems relating to browsing safety, online privacy or even identity theft.

How did Jam Box Search install on my computer?
These apps are often included in software set-ups as 'additional offers'. They infiltrate when people download and install their software without checking and changing "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings. Leaving settings unchanged agrees by default with offers to download and install additionally-included apps.
This distribution method is known as "bundling". Unwanted downloads and installations also happen when people click deceptive ads that execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Unofficial, websites, Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g. eMule. torrent clients), third party downloaders, installers and other tools/channels are often used to distribute unwanted, malicious apps. For this reason files and programs should be downloaded only from official websites and via direct links.
Check all settings such as "Custom" and "Advanced" and decline offers to download or install unwanted software before completing the process. Do not click intrusive advertisements that appear on dubious websites, since they can open untrusted websites and cause rogue downloads/installations.
Remove any, suspicious extensions, add-ons and plug-ins installed on the browser. The same should be applied to programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with Jam Box Search, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
