How to uninstall ResultsToolbox adware from operating systems
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is ResultsToolbox?
ResultsToolbox is an adware-type application that has browser hijacker characteristics. Following successful infiltration, this app delivers intrusive advertisement campaigns, makes modifications to browser settings and promotes fake search engines. Most adware programs and browser hijackers record users' browsing habits, and it is likely that ResultsToolbox does so as well.
Due to the dubious techniques used to distribute ResultsToolbox, it is classified as a Potentially Unwanted Application (PUA). One of these proliferation methods is through fake Flash Player updates. Note that bogus software updaters/installers are also employed to distribute Trojans, ransomware and other malware.
Adware enables the placement of pop-ups, surveys, banners, coupons and other ads, typically, on any visited website. Therefore, the advertisements do not originate from the sites themselves. The intrusive ads significantly diminish the browsing experience, as they overlay page content and limit browsing speed.
Additionally, when clicked, they can redirect to untrusted/malicious web pages and some can even stealthily download/install rogue software (e.g. PUAs). Browser hijackers operate by reassigning the homepage, default search engine and new tab/window URLs to the addresses of fake search engines.
Therefore, each new tab/window opened and search made via the URL bar redirects to the promoted address. Fake search engines are rarely capable of providing unique results, and so they tend to redirect to Yahoo, Google, Bing and other legitimate sites.
Furthermore, browser hijackers can deny access to the hijacked browser settings and/or reset any permitted changes made. As mentioned, adware and browser hijackers usually have data tracking capabilities.
They can monitor browsing activity (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries typed, etc.) and gather personal information extracted from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). The collected data is often monetized by sharing with and/or selling to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals).
To summarize, the presence of unwanted apps on devices can lead to system infections, financial loss, serious privacy issues and even identity theft. To ensure device integrity and user safety, you are strongly advised to eliminate all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.

MajorPanelSearch, AdditionalChannelSearch and UpgradeAnalog are some examples of other adware-type apps. This software may seem legitimate and useful. People are enticed into download/installation with a wide variety of "useful" functionalities, however, in most cases, the features promised are nonoperational.
In fact, this applies to most PUAs. These unwanted applications have just one purpose: to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than delivering any real value, PUAs run intrusive ad campaigns, hijack browsers, cause redirects and collect private information.
How did ResultsToolbox install on my computer?
PUAs are often downloaded/installed together with other software. This deceptive marketing tactic of pre-packing regular products with unwanted or malicious additions is termed "bundling".
By rushing through download/installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps, using pre-set options, etc.), many users risk unintentionally allowing bundled content onto the system. Some PUAs have "official" download web pages. Intrusive advertisements proliferate these applications as well.
Once clicked, they can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without users' consent.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are strongly advised to research all software prior to download/installation. All downloads should be performed only from official and verified sources. Unofficial and free file-hosting websites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks (BitTorrent, Gnutella, eMule, etc.) and other third party downloaders are untrusted, since they can offer deceptive and bundled content.
When downloading/installing, it is important to read the terms, study all available options, use the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, features, and so on. Intrusive ads may seem normal, however, they often redirect to dubious pages (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating, etc.).
Should such ads/redirects be encountered, check the system and remove all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay. If your computer is already infected with ResultsToolbox, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
