How to uninstall Print My Recipes
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Print My Recipes?
Print My Recipes supposedly allows users to quickly access various recipe websites. In fact, this app is a browser hijacker - it changes certain browser settings to hprintmyrecipes.com, the address of a fake search engine. Browser hijackers also track information including browsing data and other details.
Apps of this type are categorized as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), since most users download and install them inadvertently. Print My Recipes is distributed with another PUA called Hide My History.
Generally, browser hijackers promote fake search engine addresses by modifying browser settings such as the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab. In summary, apps of this type force users to visit a certain address when they open a browser, new tab and enter search queries into the URL bar.
Print My Recipes assigns the aforementioned settings to hprintmyrecipes.com. Note that hprintmyrecipes.com is a fake search engine, since it displays results generated by Yahoo (it simply redirects users to search.yahoo.com). Therefore, hprintmyrecipes.com does not generate any unique results and is redundant.
The address of the fake search engine cannot often be removed from browser settings unless the browser hijacker is removed. In this particular case, users can only remove hprintmyrecipes.com (or change it to another address) when Print My Recipes is no longer installed.
As well as promoting fake search engines, many browser hijackers collect user-system information. Generally, they target IP addresses, entered search queries, addresses of visited/opened web pages, geolocations, etc. Some collect sensitive, personal data as well.
The details could be sold to third parties (cyber criminals) or misused to generate revenue in other ways. People who have browsers hijacked by an app such as Print My Recipes might thus experience problems relating to online privacy, browsing safety or even become victims of identity theft.
Never download or install this app or other similar software. If Print My Recipes, Hide My History, or other PUAs are already installed on the browser and/or operating system, remove them immediately.

Typically, apps of this type are supposedly useful (e.g., improve the browsing experience, include features, provide quick access to certain pages), however, most are useless and simply cause problems. Always avoid browser hijackers and fake search engines.
How did Print My Recipes install on my computer?
Potentially unwanted applications are distributed by including them into the download and/or installation set-ups of other, mainly free, software. This distribution method is called "bundling". PUAs are included as 'additional offers', which can be found (and declined) in "Custom", "Advanced" or other settings.
When users download and install programs without changing these settings, they often agree by default with offers to download/install additionally-included apps. Unwanted downloads and installations can also be caused by clicking deceptive advertisements that execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Check all "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings of download and installation setups and decline offers to download or install unwanted software.
Use official, trustworthy websites and avoid third party downloaders and installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule), unofficial websites and other similar channels/tools - they are often used to distribute unwanted, potentially malicious apps.
Do not click intrusive ads that appear on dubious pages, since they can open other dubious websites and, in some cases, can run scripts to download or install unwanted applications. Remove any unwanted apps (extensions, add-ons, plug-ins) that are installed on the browser immediately.
Also remove software of this kind that is installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with Print My Recipes, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
