How to remove Sealoid and redirects to feed.sealoid.com
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Sealoid?
Sealoid is a browser hijacker. Software within this classification makes modifications to browser settings and restricts/denies access to them to promote fake search engines. Sealoid operates in this manner and also promotes feed.sealoid.com. Furthermore, it possess data tracking capabilities, which are employed to gather information relating to users' browsing habits.
Due to Sealoid's dubious proliferation methods, it is also classified as a Potentially Unwanted Application (PUA).
Following successful infiltration, browser hijackers reassign the homepage, default search engine and new tab/window URLs to the addresses of bogus search engines (e.g. for browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc.).
Therefore, with this software installed, each new browser tab/window opened and search query typed into the URL bar redirects to the address of a promoted web search tool. These fake tools have no genuine value to regular users, as they are unable to provide unique results.
To give the impression of legitimacy and for monetization, fake search engines tend to redirect to (or cause redirection chains leading to) legitimate sites. Sealoid's search engine (feed.sealoid.com) is no exception to this, as it redirects to Yahoo (search.yahoo.com).
These modifications may appear to be relatively easy to reset, however, this is impossible without removal of the browser hijacker. Any changes people attempt to make to browsers are automatically undone, if access to the settings is allowed at all.
Furthermore, Sealoid can track and record data including browsing activity (browsing and search engine histories) and collect personal information derived from it (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). The information is often shared with third parties seeking to misuse to for profit - potentially, by putting it to criminal use.
To summarize, the presence of data-tracking software on devices can result in serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identity theft. To ensure browser/system integrity and user safety, all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins must be eliminated immediately upon detection.

Browser hijackers typically seem legitimate and useful. SearchWizard, Quick Radio Search, Maps & Directions by QuestForDirections, and Easy Email Plus are just some examples of this software. Users are lured into download/installation with promises of various capabilities and features, however, the advertised functions are rarely operational, and this is common to most PUAs.
These unwanted apps have just one goal: to generate revenue for the developers. They are useless to regular users. PUAs modify browsers and promote bogus search engines, cause redirects to untrusted/malicious sites, run intrusive advertisement campaigns and collect sensitive information.
How did Sealoid install on my computer?
Sealoid has an "official" download web page, however, PUAs are more commonly downloaded/installed together with other software. This deceptive marketing technique of packing normal products with unwanted or malicious additions is called "bundling".
When downloading/installing, ignoring terms, skipping steps and sections, and using presets increases the risk of inadvertent installation of bundled content, despite the presence of any opt-out options. Intrusive ads proliferate PUAs as well. Once clicked, they can execute scripts to make stealthy downloads/installations.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised to research all software and only download it from official and verified sources. Untrustworthy download channels such as unofficial and free file-hosting (freeware) websites, P2P sharing networks (BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella, etc.) and other third party downloaders should not be used, since they can offer deceptive and bundled content.
Treat download and installation processes with caution. Read the terms, explore all available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, functions and so on. Intrusive advertisements may seem legitimate and harmless, however, they can redirect to dubious pages (e.g. pornography, gambling, adult-dating and others).
If you experience ads/redirects of this type, inspect the system and immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with Sealoid, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
