How to remove ExperienceLine adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is ExperienceLine?
The ExperienceLine app supposedly improves the browsing experience. In fact, it promotes the Safe Finder website (by opening it through akamaihd.net) and feeds users with advertisements. Adware can often access and collect various user-system information.
Note that apps such as ExperienceLine are categorized as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), since people often download and install this adware inadvertently.
Most adware-type applications (including ExperienceLine) generate revenue for the developers by serving advertisements. They usually feed users with coupons, banners, surveys, coupons and other ads. These might open dubious web pages and, in some cases, execute scripts designed to download or even install PUAs or other unwanted software.
Therefore, it is not safe to click ads that appear due to installed advertising-supported software. Adware can also record information such as addresses of visited websites, entered search queries, geolocations, IP addresses, and other browsing data. The software might also collect personal, sensitive information.
Furthermore, adware developers sell the information to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who can misuse it in other ways. Therefore, adware (including ExperienceLine) should never be downloaded or installed. These apps can be the reason behind problems relating to online privacy, browsing safety or even identity theft.

How did ExperienceLine install on my computer?
In most cases, PUAs are downloaded and installed when people intentionally or accidentally click deceptive advertisements, or download/install programs without changing settings within the setups. Commonly, developers distribute PUAs by including them into the download/installation set-ups as 'additional offers'.
Typically, these offers can be found in "Advanced", "Custom", and other settings. Many people download and install programs without checking these settings - by leaving the default settings unchanged, they accept offers to download and install additionally-included applications.
This distribution method is called "bundling". Clicking ads can cause unwanted downloads and installations when they execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
All programs and files should be downloaded from official web pages and through direct links. All of the other channels and tools such as third party downloaders/installers, unofficial web pages, Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule) are used to distribute unwanted, potentially malicious software.
Furthermore, download and installation set-ups that contain settings such as "Custom", "Advanced" should be checked carefully. Any offers to download or install additionally-included, unwanted apps should be declined. Do not click ads that appear on dubious web pages, since these might open other dubious websites or cause unwanted downloads and installations.
Remove any unwanted, unknown or suspicious extensions, add-ons and plug-ins installed on the browser, and programs of this kind installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with ExperienceLine, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
