How to uninstall apps that open fiaharam.net and other dubious sites
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is fiaharam[.]net?
fiaharam[.]net has similar functionality to maroceffects[.]com, basenews7[.]com, topflownews[.]com and many other rogue web pages. It loads dubious content or opens other untrusted web pages. Typically, fiaharam[.]net and similar sites are opened through other dubious websites, deceptive advertisements and/or by installed potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
Therefore, people do not generally open these sites intentionally. Research shows that fiaharam[.]net is promoted by adf[.]ly, a URL shortening website. It does this by generating shortened links, which lead people to fiaharam[.]net.
When sites such as fiaharam[.]net are opened by PUAs installed on browsers, they are opened in a new window or tab. They then display dubious content or open more (about 2-3) dubious, potentially malicious websites. Commonly, sites such as fiaharam[.]net open web pages designed to promote dubious software, contain deceptive ads, etc.
At the time of research, fiaharam[.]net loaded an advertisement promoting a gambling page. Additionally, fiaharam[.]net asks permission to show notifications - given by clicking the "Allow" button. Do not allow these pages to show notifications, since they will often contain dubious advertisements, links that lead to dubious websites, etc.
At the time of research, fiaharam[.]net opened another dubious page (occuration[.]info), which also asked permission to show notifications. Note that most PUAs collect browsing-related information and display various ads.
Typically, they gather details such as entered search queries, addresses of visited pages, geolocations, IP addresses, and so on, however, some might record personal, sensitive information. Collected information is sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it in various ways.
People with these apps installed on their browsers and computers are exposed to risk of problems relating to privacy, browsing safety, etc.
They might also become victims of identity theft. Installed PUAs also feed users with coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups and other ads that can open dubious web pages or execute scripts designed to cause download/installation of unwanted apps. In summary, PUAs should not be downloaded or installed, and web pages such as fiaharam[.]net cannot be trusted.

Generally, people are forced to visit dubious web pages by installed PUAs. Note that apps of this type are advertised as useful, supposedly improve the browsing experience, and deliver various features and other value, however, most are useless (do not operate as advertised) and simply cause problems.
Therefore, remove any installed PUAs from the browser and operating system immediately.
How did adware install on my computer?
In most cases, people download and install PUAs inadvertently when they click deceptive ads designed to execute certain scripts, or download/install programs that have them included in the set-ups. Commonly, PUAs are included in download/installation set-ups as 'additional offers', which can be found in settings such as "Custom", "Advanced", "Manual", etc.
This distribution method potentially unwanted apps is known as "bundling". Developers use it to deceive people into downloading and installing unwanted apps together with regular programs. They succeed when people download and install programs without checking or changing any of the settings that are available in the set-ups.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Third party downloaders, installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g, torrent clients, eMule), unofficial, dubious web pages, and other similar download, installation channels distribute PUAs. They might also distribute malware. Therefore, software and files should be downloaded from official websites and through direct links.
Furthermore, downloads and installations should not be performed without first checking "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings of the set-ups. Decline offers to download or install additional, unwanted software. Do not click advertisements that appear on dubious web pages.
If clicked, these can open untrusted websites or cause unwanted downloads and installations. Remove any unwanted, suspicious extensions, add-ons, or plug-ins installed on the browser immediately. Also remove programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
