How to uninstall the Shipment Trackers unwanted app
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Shipment Trackers?
Shipment Trackers supposedly allows users to track their packages, and provides quick links to various shopping and social media sites. In fact, this app is a potentially unwanted application (PUA), a browser hijacker that promotes the hp.hshipmentrackers.com and search.hshipmentrackers.com addresses by changing browser settings.
Most browser hijackers gather information, and this is very likely to include Shipment Trackers. Note that people tend to download and install browser hijackers inadvertently, and hence they are classified as PUAs.
Typically, browser hijackers promote fake search engines by changing browser settings such as the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab. Shipment Trackers assigns them to search.hshipmentrackers.com or hp.hshipmentrackers.com, which then redirects to search.hshipmentrackers.com.
In any case, Shipment Trackers forces people to access a fake search engine, which does not generate any unique results. Note that search.hshipmentrackers.com redirects to bing.com, and so this fake search engine simply provides results generated by Bing. Therefore, it is redundant and useless.
Typically, hijacked browsers can be stopped from opening addresses such as hp.hshipmentrackers.com and search.hshipmentrackers.com only by uninstalling the browser hijacker. I.e., apps such as Shipment Trackers do not allow users to remove assigned addresses as long as they are installed.
Furthermore, most browser hijackers collect browsing data such as IP addresses, geolocations, addresses of opened (visited) web pages, entered search queries, and so on. The data is sold to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue in other ways.
Some installed browser hijackers can record personal information. Apps such as Shipment Trackers put users at risk of becoming victims of identity theft, problems relating to privacy, browsing safety, and other issues. Therefore, remove all installed browser hijackers immediately and never download or install them again.

There are many other browser hijackers on the internet. Some examples are Templates Here Tab, Shield My Searches and Online Forms Hub. The main purpose of these apps is to promote the address of a fake search engine and they often track information. PUAs are useless, do not operate as advertised, and simply cause problems.
How did Shipment Trackers install on my computer?
Commonly, developers distribute unwanted apps by including them into the download/installation set-ups of other software. Offers to download or install potentially PUAs are mentioned in "Advanced", "Custom" and other similar settings. This distribution method is called "bundling".
Many users fail to check and and change these settings - by leaving default settings unchanged, they allow included PUAs to be downloaded and installed together with their intended programs. Additionally, PUAs are downloaded and installed through deceptive advertisements that execute certain scripts (but only if people click them).
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Programs and files should not be downloaded from unofficial websites, through Peer-to-Peer networks (torrent clients, eMule), third party downloaders, installed through third party installers, or other channels of this kind. Commonly, these channels are used to distribute unwanted, sometimes malicious programs.
Therefore, you are advised to download software only from official websites and via direct links. Furthermore, download and installation set-ups often contain settings such as "Custom", "Advanced". Check these settings and decline offers to download or install additional, unwanted software.
Do not click intrusive ads, especially if they displayed on various dubious web pages. These ads open other dubious websites or cause unwanted downloads and installations. Remove any unwanted extensions, plug-ins and add-ons already installed on the browser, and programs of this kind installed on the operating system.
If your computer is already infected with Shipment Trackers, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
