How to uninstall the Less Notifications browser hijacker
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Less Notifications?
Identical to Notifications Manager, the Less Notifications application supposedly operates as an 'ad blocker', however, after installation, it changes certain browser settings to find.lessnotifications.com. In summary, this app is a browser hijacker that promotes the address of a fake search engine.
Furthermore, applications of this type often gather information. Commonly, people download and install browser hijackers unintentionally. Therefore, these apps are classified as potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).
After installation, Less Notifications sets find.lessnotifications.com as the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab. Therefore, whoever has this app installed on their browsers are forced to visit find.lessnotifications.com when they open a browser, new tab and enter search queries into the URL bar.
This is a fake search engine, which does not generate any unique results. When used, it simply provides results generated by Bing or Google. I.e., it redirects to bing.com or google.com (depending on the user's geolocation). Note that most browser hijackers prevent users from removing the address of a promoted fake search engine from the aforementioned settings.
Typically, the only way to stop the browser from opening these bogus sites is to uninstall the browser hijacker. In this case, find.lessnotifications.com can be removed from browser settings by uninstalling Less Notifications. Furthermore, browser hijackers often gather data.
They usually target browsing data such as geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited pages, IP addresses, etc. Some collect personal, sensitive information as well. Developers sell the data to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it in other ways.
By having browser hijackers installed on browsers and/or operating systems, users risk becoming victims of identity theft, experiencing problems relating to browsing safety, privacy, and other issues. Therefore, remove all PUAs immediately.

Online Radio Streams, Reverse Phone Search and Get News Quickly Now are examples of other browser hijackers. Apps of this type usually promote the address of a fake search engine and collect various user-system information.
Browser hijackers are advertised as useful, legitimate apps that supposedly improve the browsing experience, deliver features, and so on, however, they are generally useless and simply cause problems. Therefore, remove Less Notifications and other apps of this type from the browser and operating system immediately.
How did Less Notifications install on my computer?
PUAs are distributed using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". Developers use this technique to trick people into downloading and installing unwanted apps together with other software.
They include unwanted apps into the download/installation set-ups of other programs and hide offers to include additional apps in "Custom", "Advanced" and similar settings.
Many people fail to check and change these settings when they download and install programs, thereby inadvertently allowing PUAs to be downloaded and installed with the required programs. In some cases, download and installation of PUAs is caused by clicking deceptive ads that execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
It is not safe to download/install software through third party downloaders and installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., eMule, torrent clients), untrusted websites, and so on. These channels and sources are used to distribute unwanted apps. All files and programs should be downloaded from official websites and through direct links.
Check all download and installation settings ("Custom", "Advanced") and dismiss offers to download and install additionally-included apps (PUAs) before finishing the process. Do not click advertisements that are displayed on various dubious web pages, since these can open other untrusted websites or cause download/installation of various PUAs.
Remove all suspicious, unwanted extensions, add-ons and plug-ins already installed on the browser immediately. The same should be applied to programs of this kind that are installed on the operating system.
If your computer is already infected with Less Notifications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
