What is bestevervideoplayers[.]info?

bestevervideoplayers[.]info is a deceptive/scam web page. Visitors to this site are informed that Flash Player might be outdated and are offered fake updates. Note that bogus software updaters are often used to proliferate untrusted content and programs such as adware, browser hijackers and other Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs).

Fake updaters are also high risk, as they can infect systems with malware (e.g. trojans, ransomware, etc.). Few visitors arrive at these deceptive pages intentionally - they are redirected by intrusive ads or PUAs already installed on their devices.

bestevervideoplayers[.]info scam

Once accessed, bestevervideoplayers[.]info displays several pop-up windows. The initial page is swiftly overlaid with another urging visitors to "install the latest Flash Player for better performances". It elaborates that Flash in an essential browser plug-in that enables users to view/interact with various online media (e.g. audio, video, animation, games, etc.).

The version of Flash Player on the visitors' systems supposedly might be lacking the latest security updates and have been blocked. Therefore, an update must be downloaded to continue using this plug-in. The second pop-up repeats the same message and is identical to part of the text in the background window.

Both of pop-ups have buttons, which initiate download of the bogus updates. When these buttons are clicked, bestevervideoplayers[.]info also provides the installation instructions. As mentioned, third party updaters are untrusted and should never be used for download/installation.

Rather than updating legitimate software, they can infiltrate unwanted content into systems and/or infect them with malware. Therefore, you are advised to update products with tools/functions provided by legitimate developers only.

PUAs are one of the main causes of rogue redirects to deceptive/scam, untrusted, rogue, compromised and malicious web pages, however these applications can have many other capabilities.

They can deliver intrusive ads (e.g. pop-ups, surveys, banners, etc.), which significantly diminish the browsing experience by limiting browsing speed and website visibility (i.e., they conceal legitimate web pages). Additionally, once clicked, these advertisements redirect to dangerous websites and can even stealthily download/install software (e.g. PUAs).

Another type of unwanted app can hijack browsers by altering settings and restricting/denying access to them to promote fake search engines. Most PUAs (regardless of their type) can track data. They record browsing activity (URLs visited, search queries typed, etc.) and collect users' personal information inferred from it (e.g. IP addresses, geolocations and other details).

This vulnerable data is often shared with third parties seeking to misuse it for financial gain, potentially, by putting it to criminal use.

In summary, PUAs can cause browser/system infiltration and infections, lead to serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identity theft. To ensure device and user safety, remove all suspect applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.

worldofcontenting.infotheultimatesafevideoplayers.info and streamoverlyquickprogram.com are examples of other sites running practically identical scams to bestevervideoplayers[.]info. Social engineering and scare tactics are employed to trick people into performing certain actions.

For example, downloading/installing and purchasing nonoperational, unwanted or malicious content; calling fake and expensive technical support lines; revealing personal information (e.g. financial details, etc.); making monetary transactions, and so on. Popular scam models include alerts that the system is infected or at risk, prize giveaways, "unbelievable offers", etc.

The only purpose of these schemes is to generate revenue for the scammers behind them. They are not designed for the benefit of users and can cause serious problems.

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?

Certain PUAs have "official" download pages, which in turn are often promoted by deceptive/scam websites. PUAs also proliferate via the download/install set-ups of other products. This deceptive marketing technique of pre-packing normal content with unwanted or malicious software is called "bundling".

Rushing through download/installation processes (e.g. using pre-set options, skipping steps, etc.) endangers systems with potential infiltration and infections. When clicked, intrusive ads can execute scripts to download/install PUAs, without users' permission.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications

All products should be researched carefully before download/installation. Use only official and verified download channels. Peer-to-Peer sharing networks (BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella, etc.), free file-hosting sites and other third party downloaders are untrusted and can offer likewise dubious content.

When downloading/installing, you are advised to read the terms, study all possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, functions and so on. Intrusive advertisements tend to appear legitimate and innocuous, however they often redirect to dubious web pages (gambling, pornography, adult-dating and many others).

If you encounter these ads/redirects, check the system and immediately remove all suspicious applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
