How to stop redirects to and from newsbreak.com
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is newsbreak[.]com?
newsbreak[.]com is a rogue site sharing many similarities with daystream.club, gubudakis.com, brotherenuryc.pro and countless others.
It generates redirects to other untrusted/malicious web pages and presents visitors with dubious content. Most users enter newsbreak[.]com and similar pages via redirects caused by intrusive ads or Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs) already infiltrated into the system. PUAs cause redirects, deliver intrusive ad campaigns and track browsing-related information.
Once accessed, newsbreak[.]com first checks visitors' IP addresses to learn their geolocations. This information is key in determining its further course of action. Depending on their geolocations, users are presented with dubious material and/or are redirected elsewhere.
Furthermore, this website uses browser notifications to run intrusive ad campaigns. It promotes its notifications via dubious methods ("Receive Local News in Time! click 'Allow' to show notification of breaking news in your are"), however, rather than delivering the promised information, newsbreak[.]com delivers unwanted and harmful ads (e.g. pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys, etc.).
These advertisements significantly diminish the browsing experience by limiting browsing speed and site visibility (by overlaying page content). When clicked, they redirect to untrusted, rogue, sale-based, compromised, deceptive/scam and malicious web pages.
Some ads can execute scripts to download/install unwanted content (e.g. PUAs) without users' consent. These unwanted apps can force-open similarly dangerous web pages and deliver intrusive advertisement campaigns (the resultant ads possess the aforementioned capabilities and carry associated risks).
PUAs commonly track data. They record browsing activity (browsing and search engine histories) and gather personal information (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). This sensitive data is often shared with third parties seeking to misuse it for profit - potentially by putting to criminal use.
To summarize, PUAs can cause various infiltration and infections, lead to serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identity theft. To protect device integrity and user safety, you are advised to remove all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.

PUAs may seem legitimate and entice users into downloading/installing them with offers of various "useful" functions. These features rarely work as promised and, in most cases, are nonoperational. The only purpose of PUAs is to generate revenue for the developers at users' expense.
Therefore, these applications are useless, but can also cause severe issues. PUAs are designed force-open untrusted and malicious web pages, run intrusive ad campaigns and collect vulnerable data.
How did adware install on my computer?
PUAs proliferate through the download/install set-ups of other products. This deceptive marketing technique of pre-packing regular programs with unwanted or malicious software is called "bundling".
Rushing download and installation processes (e.g. skipping steps and sections, etc.) increases the risk of potential infiltration and infections via bundled content. Some PUAs have "official" download pages. Intrusive ads also proliferate these applications. Once clicked, they can execute scripts to stealthily download/install PUAs.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised to research all products, prior to download/installation or purchase. Use only official and verified download channels, as opposed to untrusted sources (e.g. Peer-to-Peer sharing networks, free file-hosting sites and other third party downloaders). Untrusted download sources can offer deceptive and/or bundled content.
When downloading and installing, read the terms, study all available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of supplementary apps, tools, features and so on. Intrusive advertisements usually seem normal and innocuous, however, they can redirect to highly dubious web pages (e.g. pornography, adult-dating, gambling and many others).
If you encounter ads/redirects of this kind, inspect the device and immediately remove all suspicious applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
