How to uninstall the Get Your Obituaries Now browser hijacker
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Get Your Obituaries Now?
Get Your Obituaries Now is a potentially unwanted application (PUA), a browser hijacker which promotes search.getyourobituariesnowtab.com (the address of a fake search engine) by changing certain browser settings. In most cases, browser hijackers promote fake search engines and gather browsing data.
Typically, people download and install apps of this type inadvertently. Get Your Obituaries Now is installed together with another PUA called Hide My Searches.
Get Your Obituaries Now promotes search.getyourobituariesnowtab.com by setting it as the address of the default search engine, homepage, and new tab. Therefore, users are forced to visit this address when they open a browser, new tab or enter search queries into the URL bar.
Typically, addresses of fake search engines cannot be removed from the aforementioned settings as long as the browser hijacker is installed on the browser and/or operating system. The settings can only be modified/undone after uninstallation of the specific browser hijacker (in this case, Get Your Obituaries Now).
Note that search.getyourobituariesnowtab.com is defined as a fake search engine, since it does not generate any unique results. When used, it simply redirects to search.yahoo.com and delivers results generated by the Yahoo search engine. Essentially, search engines such as search.getyourobituariesnowtab.com are useless.
Furthermore, browser hijackers often gather browsing data such as users' IP addresses, geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of opened/visited pages, and so on. Some browser hijackers can record personal, sensitive information as well.
In any case, developers misuse collected data to generate revenue or they sell it to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who do the same.
People who have browser hijackers installed on the browser and/or operating system risk experiencing problems relating to browsing safety, privacy, and it is possible that they might become victims of identity theft. Therefore, we recommend that you uninstall Get Your Obituaries Now, Hide My Searches and all other apps of this type immediately.

Easy Internet Speed Test, My Maps Homepage and Free Streaming Radio are examples of other browser hijackers. Typically, the developers advertise them as useful, legitimate applications that supposedly deliver various features, however, they are useless and cause problems.
They deliver no value and are designed only to perform actions to help the developers to generate revenue.
How did Get Your Obituaries Now install on my computer?
Frequently, PUAs are downloaded/installed together with other (usually free) software that people wish to download or install intentionally. I.e., when they are included into download and/or installation set-ups as additional offers. Typically, such offers are mentioned in "Custom", "Advanced", and other settings of the software set-ups.
People who do not check or change these settings often inadvertently allow included PUAs to be download and/or installed with regular software. Unintentional downloads and installations can also be caused by clicking deceptive ads that execute certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Do not use third party downloaders, installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule), unofficial pages to download or install software. Files and programs should be downloaded only from official websites and via direct links.
Check all settings of each download/installation setup and dismiss any offers to download or install additional software before completing the process. Do not click intrusive ads, especially if they are displayed on dubious websites. For example, on those relating to adult dating, pornography, gambling, etc.
These ads commonly lead to untrusted websites or cause unwanted downloads/installations. If ads appear on most visited pages or the browser regularly opens dubious web pages, remove all unwanted extensions, plug-ins and add-ons from the browser and programs of this kind from the operating system.
If your computer is already infected with Get Your Obituaries Now, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacke.
