How to stop being redirected to and from twok.pro
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is twok[.]pro?
twok[.]pro is a rogue website that shares many similarities with zahkit.pro, scuseami.net, showeverig.info and countless others. Visitors to this page are presented with dubious content and/or are redirected to other untrusted, even malicious sites.
Typically, users do not access these web pages intentionally - they are redirected by intrusive ads or Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs) already infiltrated into the system. Note that these apps do not require explicit consent to be installed onto users' devices. PUAs generate redirects, deliver intrusive advertisement campaigns and gather browsing-related information.
When accessed, twok[.]pro first checks visitors' IP addresses to learn their geolocations. This data is crucial in determining the website's further course of action. Whether users are redirected elsewhere and/or or presented with dubious material depends on their geolocations.
Furthermore, twok[.]pro requests visitors to enable browser notifications by employing 'clickbait' tactics ("Press on Allow and watch this Baby!"). When these notifications are enabled, rather than gaining access to the video, twok[.]pro begins running intrusive ad campaigns.
The resultant ads are more than just a nuisance, they seriously affect the browsing experience (i.e., diminish browsing speed and limit page visibility). Intrusive advertisements are also a serious threat. When they are clicked, users are redirected to untrusted, rogue, compromised, deceptive/scam and malicious websites.
Some of these ads can execute scripts designed to download/install unwanted content (including PUAs) without users' permission. Note that PUAs can force-open twok[.]pro and other dangerous web pages. These unwanted applications can also deliver intrusive ads (e.g. pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys, etc.), which have dangerous capabilities as detailed above.
PUAs often monitor and record information such as browsing and search engine histories, IP addresses, geolocations and users' personal details.
This sensitive data is often shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) intent on misusing it for profit. In summary, PUAs can cause system infiltration and infections, lead to financial loss, serious privacy issues and even identity theft. Therefore, to ensure device and user safety, remove all suspicious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.

PUAs may seem to be legitimate software offering "useful" functions, however, these features rarely work as advertised and, in most cases, are nonoperational. The only purpose of these apps is to generate revenue for the developers, whilst regular users receive no value.
They can lead to a number of issues including redirects to untrusted/malicious pages, intrusive ad campaigns and collection of private data.
How did adware install on my computer?
Some PUAs have "official" promotional sites from which they can be downloaded, however, they can also be downloaded/installed together with other programs. "Bundling" is the term used to define this deceptive marketing method of pre-packing normal software with unwanted or malicious content.
When downloading/installing, ignoring terms, skipping steps, and using pre-set options endangers devices with potential infiltration and infections. Intrusive ads also proliferate these applications. Once clicked, they can execute scripts to stealthily download/install PUAs.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
All products should be researched before download/installation or purchase. Use only official and verified download sources. Untrustworthy channels such as Peer-to-Peer sharing networks (BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella, etc.), free file-hosting websites and other third party downloaders should not be used, as they can offer deceptive and/or bundled content.
Treat download and installation processes with caution. Read the terms, study all available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and decline offers to download/install additional apps, tools, features, etc. Intrusive ads often seem legitimate and innocuous, however, they can redirect to highly dubious web pages (e.g. gambling, pornography, adult-dating and others).
If you encounter these ads/redirects, inspect the system and immediately remove all suspect applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
