How to remove Weather Forecaster from your browser
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Weather Forecaster?
Weather Forecaster is a rogue application, endorsed as a tool for quick access to weather-related information (e.g. weather forecasts, current weather, etc.). It is categorized as a browser hijacker, due to the alterations it makes to browsers, and since it promotes a fake search engine (search.weatherforecastertab.com).
Additionally, it can read/record users' browsing activity. Due to dubious methods employed to distribute Weather Forecaster (most users download/install it unintentionally), it is classified as a Potentially Unwanted Application (PUA). Weather Forecaster is frequently distributed with another PUA called Hide My Searches.
Following successful infiltration, browser hijackers reassign the homepage, default search engine and new tab/window URL to the addresses of their fake search engines. Weather Forecaster promotes search.weatherforecastertab.com in this manner.
To elaborate on how these alterations affect browsers: with Weather Forecaster installed, each new tab/window opened and each search query typed into the URL bar redirects to search.weatherforecastertab.com.
Most bogus search engines cannot generate unique results and simply redirect to (or cause redirection chains ending with) a legitimate site (e.g. Google, Yahoo, Bing or others). Note that search.weatherforecastertab.com is no exception and redirects to search.yahoo.com.
While these modifications may seem insignificant and relatively easy to undo, this is not the case. Any changes users attempt to make to their browsers are automatically reset, if indeed access to the settings is allowed at all. Therefore, the browser hijacker must be eliminated to recover the affected browser.
As mentioned, most browser hijackers have data tracking capabilities, including Weather Forecaster. It monitors users' browsing habits (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, etc.) and collects personal information (IP addresses, geolocations and other details).
This sensitive data is often shared with third parties, seeking to misuse it for profit - potentially by putting it to criminal use. To summarize, the presence of data-tracking software on devices can lead to serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identify theft.
To ensure browser and system integrity, and user safety, remove all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately upon detection.

In general, PUAs often seem legitimate and entice users into downloading/installing them with offers of "useful" features. Download Party, Easy Package Tracking, Gamers Buddy and Online TV Streams are some examples of apps categorized as browser hijackers.
Despite how useful these applications may sound, their functions are typically nonoperational and can cause serious issues. The only purpose of all PUAs is to generate revenue for the developers - they are of no value to regular users. PUAs hijack browsers, run intrusive advertisement campaigns, cause redirects to untrustworthy/malicious web pages and gather private data.
How did Weather Forecaster install on my computer?
Weather Forecaster can be downloaded from its "official" promotional site, however, this is not the only way PUAs can infiltrate systems. They are commonly downloaded/installed together with other programs. This deceptive marketing tactic of pre-packing regular software with unwanted or malicious content is called "bundling".
Rushing download and installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, using presets, skipping steps and sections, etc.) endangers devices with potential infiltration and infections. Intrusive ads also proliferate these applications. When clicked, they can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without users' permission.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are strongly advised to research all products, before downloading/installing or purchasing them. All downloads should be performed from official and verified sources.
Untrustworthy download channels such as free file-hosting sites, Peer-to-Peer sharing networks (BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella, etc.) and other third party downloaders can offer deceptive and/or bundled content. When downloading/installing, read the terms, explore all available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and opt-out of additional apps, tools, features and so on.
Intrusive ads usually seem normal and harmless, however, they can redirect to dubious websites (e.g. gambling, adult-dating, pornography and others).
If you experience advertisements/redirects of this kind, immediately inspect the system and remove all suspicious applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with Weather Forecaster, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
