How to remove apps that open slimsk.pro and similar websites
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is slimsk[.]pro?
There are many rogue websites similar to slimsk[.]pro on the internet. Other examples are find-soulmates[.]com, best-girls-ever[.]com and hellopushworld[.]com.
These sites load dubious content or redirect visitors to other untrustworthy websites. Generally, they are opened by browsers when potentially unwanted apps (PUAs) are installed on them. Therefore, people do not visit pages such as slimsk[.]pro intentionally. Most PUAs open dubious web pages, collect data and display advertisements.
PUAs open rogue web pages such as slimsk[.]pro in new browser windows or tabs. Once visited, they redirect users to other (about 2-3) untrustworthy, malicious websites or load dubious content. Their behaviour depends on visitors' geolocations. Additionally, this particular website (slimsk[.]pro) states that to play a video, visitors must click the "Allow" button.
Do not click this, since it will allow slimsk[.]pro to show notifications. Typically, these rogue sites show notifications that contain untrustworthy advertisements, links to dubious sites, and so on. Other pages might use different 'clickbait' techniques to trick visitors into giving permission to show notifications.
They could ask visitors to prove that they are not robots, confirm their age, and so on. As mentioned, most unwanted apps deliver advertisements and gather data. Typically, they feed users with coupons, banners, pop-ups, surveys and other ads that usually conceal underlying content of visited websites.
When clicked, they open untrustworthy websites or execute scripts designed to download and/or install PUAs. Some ads of this type could also install malware. Furthermore, installed PUAs usually collect browsing data such as IP addresses, entered search queries, addresses of visited websites, geo-locations and other similar information.
Installed PUAs might also record sensitive details. Developers may sell the data to third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue. People who have PUAs installed on their browsers risk problems with privacy, browsing safety, or they might become victims of identity theft. You are strongly advised to uninstall all PUAs immediately.

People responsible for PUAs advertise their apps as legitimate, useful applications, however, they deliver no real value. PUAs simply perform actions to help the developers to generate revenue and should never be downloaded or installed. In fact, many people download and install them unintentionally.
How did adware install on my computer?
Typically, people download/install adware through deceptive ads that they have clicked or when software developers distribute them using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". Developers use this method to trick people into downloading and installing unwanted apps through the set-ups of other software.
They present PUAs as additional offers and place them in "Custom", "Advanced" or other similar settings of the set-ups. People who leave these settings unchanged often inadvertently agree with all included offers to download and/or install unwanted apps.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Do not download or install software through third party software downloaders, installers, Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule), unofficial websites and other sources of this kind. The safest way to download programs is using official websites and direct download links.
Check settings (such as "Advanced", "Custom") of the download or installation setup. Dismiss any offers to download or install additional, unwanted software before finishing the process. It is not safe to click ads that are displayed on dubious web pages (for example, gambling, pornography, adult dating pages, and so on).
These ads usually lead to untrustworthy sites or cause download/installation of unwanted programs. If the browser shows unwanted ads or opens dubious web pages, it can be stopped by removing all unwanted, suspicious/unknown extensions, plug-ins and add-ons. Also remove programs of this kind from the operating system.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
