How to stop browsers from opening invod.pro
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is invod[.]pro?
Invod[.]pro is the address of a web page that many people visit unintentionally. Once opened, this site opens other untrustworthy websites or loads dubious content. Note that invod[.]pro functions like many other websites of this type including, for example, lulachu[.]com, wwserch42[.]biz and newsredirect[.]ne.
People often end up on these sites due to potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) installed on their browsers or computers. These apps often collect browsing data and display ads.
When visited, invod[.]pro loads dubious content or opens about two or three other untrustworthy pages, which might be malicious, contain deceptive ads, promote untrustworthy software, and so on. Note that the actions of invod[.]pro depend on visitors' IP addresses.
Furthermore, invod[.]pro asks permission to show notifications using a 'clickbait' technique: it encourages visitors to click the "Allow" button so that they can watch a video. If clicked, the button allows invod[.]pro to show notifications such as deceptive ads and other unwanted content.
As mentioned, applications that open these websites often gather information including browsing data: IP addresses, geolocations, addresses of visited websites, entered search queries, and so on. Some PUAs collect personal, sensitive information.
Developers share the information with third parties who misuse it to generate revenue. There is a possibility that they might share it with cyber criminals. Furthermore, many PUAs display advertisements, often in the form of coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, etc. When clicked, these open untrustworthy websites or download or even install unwanted software.

People behind PUAs usual advertise them as useful, legitimate programs, however, they mostly redirect to dubious pages, display intrusive/deceptive ads and record various details. In summary, most PUAs do not deliver any real value or features, and cause problems relating to privacy, browsing safety, and even identity theft.
How did adware install on my computer?
Most PUAs are downloaded or installed when people click deceptive advertisements that run certain scripts, or when developers distribute them using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". They use bundling to trick people into downloading/installing PUAs through the set-ups of other, mainly free, software.
They hide unwanted apps in settings such as "Custom" or "Advanced" and hope that people will not check or change them. When downloads or installations are made without changing those settings, these additionally-included PUAs automatically receive permission to be downloaded or installed.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Avoid downloading/installing software from untrustworthy, unofficial websites, through tools such as torrent clients, eMule or other Peer-to-Peer networks, third party downloaders, installers, and so on. The best way is to use direct download links and official websites.
Check all settings such as "Custom", "Advanced" that are included in the download/installation set-ups. Dismiss any offers to download or install unwanted apps. If clicked, many intrusive ads redirect people to untrustworthy websites or cause unwanted downloads/installations.
Typically, these ads are displayed on dubious web pages. For example, on those relating to pornography, gambling, adult dating, etc. To prevent browsers from causing unwanted redirects and showing ads, ensure that there are no unwanted, unknown or suspicious plug-ins, add-ons or extensions installed on the browser, or programs of this kind installed on the operating system.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
