How to remove Search4Moviex from your browser
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Search4Moviex?
Search4Moviex is a browser hijacker, and promoted as a tool for easy access to cinema-related content. It can allegedly provide information concerning actors, directors, movies and so on. After successful installation, Search4Moviex changes certain browser settings to promote blpsearch.com, a fake search engine.
Additionally, it has data tracking abilities, which it employs to monitor users' browsing activity. Due to its dubious proliferation methods, Search4Moviex is also classified as a Potentially Unwanted Application (PUA).
Typically, browser hijackers target Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and other popular browsers. They change the homepage, default search engine and new tab/window URLs to the addresses of their fake web searchers. Search4Moviex promotes blpsearch.com in this fashion.
Therefore, each new tab/window opened and each search query typed into the URL bar redirects to blpsearch.com. Few fraudulent search tools can provide genuine search results, and so they redirect to (or cause redirection chains ending with) Google, Yahoo, Bing or other legitimate search engines.
In the case of blpsearch.com, it redirects to search.yahoo.com. These changes may seem insignificant and relatively easy to undo, however, access to browser settings can be limited or denied. Even if access is possible, any changes made are automatically reset.
To recover an affected browser, it is necessary to eliminate the browser hijacker. As mentioned, Search4Moviex can track data. It monitors browsing activity (URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, etc.) and gathers users' personal information (IP addresses, geolocations and other details).
This sensitive data can then be shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) seeking to misuse it to generate profit. The presence of data-tracking content on systems can lead to serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identity theft. To ensure device integrity and user safety, remove all dubious applications and browser extensions/plug-ins without delay.

Watch Movies Live, EntertainmentNewsNow, Watch Television Online, and Your Streaming TV Now are some examples of other browser hijackers. In general, PUAs tend to share common qualities. They often seem legitimate and tempt users into downloading/installing them with offers of "useful" and "beneficial" features.
The advertised functions are usually nonoperational, making these apps useless to regular users. Unwanted applications have just one purpose: to generate revenue for the developers. Rather than delivering any real value, they make unauthorized changes to browsers, cause redirects to untrustworthy and malicious sites, run intrusive ad campaigns and collect private data.
How did Search4Moviex install on my computer?
Certain PUAs (including Search4Moviex) have "official" promotional web pages, from which they can often be downloaded "free". The most common mode of PUA proliferation is via the download/installation set-ups of other software. This deceptive marketing technique of packing regular programs with unwanted or malicious content is called "bundling".
Rushing download and installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, using pre-set options, skipping steps and sections, etc.) increases the risk of unintentionally allowing bundled applications onto the system. When clicked, intrusive advertisements can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without users' permission.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Research all content to verify its legitimacy, prior to downloading/installing. Use only official and verified download sources. Avoid untrustworthy download channels, such as P2P sharing networks (BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella, etc.), free file-hosting websites and other third party downloaders.
Treat download and installation processes with caution. Read the terms, explore all possible options, use the "Custom/Advanced" options and opt-out of supplementary apps, tools, features and so on.
Intrusive ads typically seem normal and harmless, however, when clicked they redirect to various dubious web pages (e.g. pornography, adult-dating, gambling and others). If you experience advertisements/redirects of this kind, inspect the device and immediately remove all suspicious applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins.
If your computer is already infected with Search4Moviex, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
