Stop redirects to and from vidconverter.co

What is vidconverter[.]co?
As with wwserch42.biz, newsredirect.net, localmylife.info and many other rogue websites, vidconverter[.]co present visitors with dubious content and/or redirects them to other untrustworthy and malicious web pages.
Most users access these sites inadvertently, since they are redirected by intrusive ads or Potentially Unwanted Applications (PUAs) already infiltrated into the system. Note that apps within this classification do not need express permission to be installed onto devices.
PUAs operate by causing redirects, running intrusive advertisement campaigns and tracking browsing-related information.
When opened, vidconverter[.]co first checks visitors' geolocations to learn their IP address. This information is crucial in determining this web page's further course of action. Depending on their geolocations, users are redirected elsewhere or presented with highly dubious content.
Additionally, vidconverter[.]co uses browser notifications. If consent to these is granted, vidconverter[.]co begins delivering intrusive advertisements. The ads are more than just a nuisance, they are also a threat to system health. Once such an ad is clicked, it can redirect to sale-oriented, untrustworthy, compromised, deceptive/scam and malicious sites.
Some can even be triggered (by clicking them) to execute scripts designed to stealthily download/install content - often, PUAs. After successful installation, unwanted applications can generate redirects to likewise dangerous websites and also run intrusive advertisement campaigns by implementing various tools to enable third party graphical content to be displayed on any site.
The delivered ads diminish the browsing experience (limit browsing speed and page visibility) and have the above capabilities, thus carrying the associated risks. Regardless of specifications, however, most PUAs can track data.
They monitor browsing activity (URLs visited, search queries typed, etc.) and collect users' personal information (IP addresses, geolocations and other details). This vulnerable data can the be shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) intent on misusing it for profit.
Therefore, PUAs can lead to browser/system infiltration and infections, serious privacy issues, financial loss and even identity theft. To protect device and user safety, remove all suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins immediately.

PUAs tend to seem legitimate. While these apps offer different functions and features, they share certain similarities. Regardless of how good their offers may sound, the advertised features are often nonoperational. All PUAs have just one purpose: to generate revenue for their developers, whilst regular users receive no value.
PUAs cause redirects to untrustworthy and malicious pages, deliver intrusive ad campaigns and gather sensitive data.
How did adware install on my computer?
PUAs are mostly proliferated through the download/installation set-ups of other programs. "Bundling" is the term used to describe this deceptive marketing method of pre-packing regular software with unwanted applications.
Rushing download/installation processes (e.g. skipping steps and sections, using pre-set options, etc.) increases the risk of unintentionally allowing bundled programs onto devices. Some PUAs also have "official" download websites. Intrusive advertisements can proliferate PUAs by executing scripts to download/install this rogue software, without users' consent.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
You are advised to research software, tools, features, etc. prior to downloading/installing. Use only official and verified download channels. Peer-to-Peer sharing networks (BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella), unofficial and free file-hosting sites, third party downloaders and similar sources are untrustworthy and should be avoided.
Download and installation processes should be approached with caution. Read the terms, study all available options, use the "Custom/Advanced" settings and decline offers to download/install additional content. Intrusive ads usually seem normal and innocuous, however, they can cause redirects to dubious web pages (e.g. pornography, adult-dating, gambling and so on).
If you encounter advertisements/redirects of this kind, check the system and remove all suspicious applications and/or browser extensions/plug-ins without delay. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
