Stop browsers from causing redirects to piedppienews.com
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is piedppienews[.]com?
When opened, the piedppienews[.]com rogue web page causes redirects to other untrusted websites or displays dubious content. Many websites operate in a similar way to piedppienews[.]com including, for example, newsapp[.]biz, trementrecially[.]pro, and prize-mania[.]mobi.
Generally, visitors do not open these sites intentionally. In most cases, they are redirected to them by potentially unwanted apps (PUAs) installed on computers and/or browsers. Most PUAs work as browser tracking tools and are often designed to display intrusive ads.
Typically, PUAs open websites such as piedppienews[.]com in a new browser window or tab. They then display dubious content or cause additional redirects (about two or three) to other untrustworthy websites. These actions depend on the visitor's geolocation.
Web pages opened through piedppienews[.]com (or other similar sites) can be malicious and used to trick visitors into downloading and installing unwanted software.
Furthermore, when visited, piedppienews[.]com asks for permission to show notifications, however, it does so using a 'clickbait' technique whereby it encourages people to continue the process by clicking the "Allow" button. If clicked, this simply allows piedppienews[.]com to show ads, notifications, and other unwanted, possibly deceptive content.
PUAs responsible for opening these sites also gather various information. For example, users' IP addresses, geolocations, entered search queries, addresses of visited websites, and so on. Some might be designed to record private/sensitive details.
In any case, the people behind the apps usually share the details with other people (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse them to generate revenue. Installed PUAs might serve unwanted, intrusive ads such as coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and others.
If clicked, most lead to untrustworthy or even malicious websites, or they run scripts that start the download or installation process of unwanted, possibly malicious software. These are the main reasons why you should remove all PUAs immediately.

Most potentially unwanted apps are advertised as useful, legitimate applications, however, they provide no value and do not operate as advertised.
They simply cause problems by opening dubious web pages, displaying ads, and gathering data. People who have these apps installed and use them risk problems with privacy, browsing safety, and they might even have their identities stolen.
How did adware install on my computer?
Generally, people download and install PUAs unintentionally. In most cases, they cause this by clicking intrusive (deceptive) advertisements or by downloading/installing software without checking settings included in the set-ups. To trick people into downloading and installing PUAs with other programs, developers often use a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".
They include unwanted apps into the set-ups of other software and hide the information in settings such as "Custom", "Advanced", etc. PUAs receive permission to be downloaded and installed when these download or installation settings are left unchanged.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Download files and software from official websites. Do not use third party downloaders, installers Peer-to-Peer networks (torrent clients, eMule, etc.), dubious web pages, or other similar channels to download or install programs. Download/installation set-ups generally contain settings such as "Custom", "Advanced", and so on.
We recommend that you check these and deselect offers to download or install unwanted apps before finishing the process. Do not click intrusive ads, especially if they are displayed on dubious web pages. If clicked, they can lead to potentially malicious sites or cause unwanted downloads/installations.
Typically, browsers display ads or open dubious web pages when PUAs are installed. To stop browsers from behaving unexpectedly, uninstall unwanted apps (extensions, add-ons, plug-ins) that might be installed, and apply this to software of this type that is installed on the operating system.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
