How to uninstall ExtraBrowser adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is ExtraBrowser?
ExtraBrowser supposedly helps users to search more effectively, however, this app is a potentially unwanted application (PUA) that is classified as adware.
Adware is software that serves advertisements. Typically, people do not generally download or install applications of this type intentionally. Furthermore, it is very likely that ExtraBrowser collects information about users' browsing habits. We recommend that you uninstall this app (and all other installed adware) immediately.
People who have adware installed on their computers and/or browsers are usually served with various unwanted, intrusive advertisements. For example, coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and so on. Generally, when they click these ads, they are redirected to untrustworthy, deceptive and potentially malicious websites.
In some cases, if clicked, the ads lead to download/installation of potentially unwanted applications (such as adware, browser hijackers, etc.). Another problem with adware-type apps such as ExtraBrowser is that they often gather details relating to users' browsing activity.
For example, addresses of opened/visited websites, IP addresses, geolocations, entered search queries, and so on. Some of these apps might also record personal details. Adware developers often share the data with third parties (potentially cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue.
It is possible that installed adware might cause problems with browsing safety, privacy, and so on. Furthermore, shared details might be used to steal identities.

Many apps are similar to ExtraBrowser, some examples are CoordinatorLinks, ProductEvent, and ManagerPages. Most apps of this type are used to generate revenue by displaying advertisements, however, in some cases, they might be used as information tracking tools. In any case, we advise you to remove all installed adware immediately.
How did ExtraBrowser install on my computer?
Typically, unwanted apps such as adware are installed through clicked deceptive, intrusive advertisements or when software developers use the "bundling" method. Developers use this to trick people into downloading and installing unwanted apps with their regular software.
They achieve this by simply hiding information about included unwanted apps in "Custom", "Advanced", and other similar settings/options of the download or installation set-ups. Users who fail to check and change the settings often download and install PUAs.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications
Download software from legitimate (official) websites and using direct download links. Do not use Peer-to-Peer networks (torrent clients, eMule, or other such tools), third party downloaders/installers, unofficial websites, or other download channels of this kind.
Do not finish any download or installation without checking settings such as "Custom", "Advanced", etc. that are included in the setup. Dismiss any additionally-included apps. Note that intrusive ads often cause redirects to untrustworthy web pages and are displayed on sites relating to gambling, adult dating, and others.
To stop unwanted redirects and ads, remove all unwanted (unknown or suspicious) extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons installed on the browser immediately.
If there are any programs of this kind installed on the operating system, also remove them. If your computer is already infected with ExtraBrowser, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate this adware.
