Stop redirects to/from topernews.me

What is topernews[.]me?
Topernews[.]me is a rogue site, designed to cause unauthorized redirects and present visitors with highly suspect content (largely, of the click-bait type). There are thousands of rogue websites, sharing many similarities in-between (e.g. rembrandium.com, checking-your-browser.com, getmedia.me, dancewithlittleredpony.com and so on). It should be mentioned that few users enter topernews[.]me willingly.
Most visitors are either redirected from other untrustworthy sites (more specifically, the intrusive adverts therein) or have it opened by PUAs (potentially unwanted applications). Said apps do not require express user permission to be installed onto their systems.
Unwanted applications cause redirects to unreliable/malicious sites, deliver likewise questionable invasive ads and track user data.
Potentially unwanted applications are designed to force-open new browser tabs/windows and redirect users to rogue sites (in this instance - topernews[.]me). Intrusive advertisements can also spread such sites. The topernews[.]me website functions thusly: it begins with checking visitor's IP (Internet Protocol) address in order to learn their geolocation.
Once this information is learnt, topernews[.]me either redirects users elsewhere (likely to untrustworthy, even dangerous sites) or force-feeds them dubious content. Regardless of its exact actions, users are bound to come into contact with malignant matter.
Additionally, this site misuses browser notifications, often tricking users into consenting to them through click-bait tactics (for example, "click to verify that you're not a robot", "no internet connection; click to reload" and etc.). When the browser notifications are allowed, they deliver invasive advertisement campaigns.
Adverts of this kind are considered a threat, due to the sites they redirect to, as well as their ability to execute scripts and download/install PUAs without user consent or knowledge. PUAs can cause redirects and run intrusive advert campaigns.
These ads are delivered through the enablement of third party graphical content, therefore they can seriously affect the browsing experience (limit speed and site visibility). As previously stated, undesired applications also have data-tracking capabilities. Information of interest includes: IP address, geolocation, browsing and search engine history and various personal details.
What is crucial to understand, is that this data is passed onto third parties, (possibly even cyber criminals), seeking to use it to generate revenue. Therefore, presence of rogue applications in one's device can not only compromise device and browser integrity, but also endanger users' privacy and identity (with identity theft being a possible outcome).
In summary, to ensure device and user safety: visiting topernews[.]me (and similar websites) is strongly advised against, immediate removal of all PUAs is highly recommended.

There are many PUAs out there and most of them offer some "useful" and "beneficial" feature. Although these offers frequently appear legitimate and useful - in most cases they are nonfunctional. Unwanted applications are designed to bring profit for their developers; for users themselves - they have no value whatsoever.
Instead of any promised features, PUAs cause undesirable redirects, deliver invasive ad campaigns and gather sensitive information.
How did adware install on my computer?
Most PUA invasions occur through intrusive advertisements or installation packs/bundles. By visiting suspicious websites and clicking various adverts therein - users unknowingly expose themselves to possible undesired app infiltrations.
When installing software, by ignoring terms, skipping steps and not changing pre-set options - users can allow even outright malicious applications into their devices. User haste and inattentiveness is well-known to PUA designers - and accordingly exploited.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
It is highly recommended to user only verified and official sources for all software downloads (preferably, direct download links). As opposed to, peer-to-peer sharing networks (e.g. BitTorrent, eMule, Gnutella, etc.) and other third party downloaders - due to the fact, that programs downloaded from such are more likely to be bundled with rogue applications.
When installing software, users should explore terms and possible options. Instead of using any pre-set options, using "Custom/Advanced" settings is recommended. Any supplementary applications/features should be treated with suspicion and opted-out of or declined.
Accepting additional offers without doing any research - is strongly advised against; despite legitimate appearances the actual promises may turn out to be entirely nonfunctional. When browsing, users should avoid dubious sites and advertisements. It should be noted that intrusive ads tend to looks absolutely innocuous, in order to successfully lure users into clicking them.
However, a telltale sign can be the websites they redirect to - for example - gambling, pornography, adult dating and similar. Should users encounter such ads/redirects - any suspect applications and browser extensions/plug-ins should be removed without delay.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
