How to uninstall EasyWay
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is EasyWay?
EasyWay supposedly allows users to quickly search for places, get directions, and see live maps directly from a new browser tab or window. This app may seem to be a legitimate tool, however, it is a browser hijacker that changes settings and collects user-information.
Since most people download and install EasyWay unintentionally, it is categorized as a potentially unwanted application (PUA).
Once a browser hijacker is installed, it immediately changes browser settings such as the homepage, default search engine, and new tab URL. EasyWay assigns them to srchbar.com. Most browser hijackers can be installed on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and/or Internet Explorer and they prevent users from undoing or changing the settings they appoint.
Users are thus forced to visit a specific web address (in this case, srchbar.com) when they open the hijacked browser, a new tab, or enter search queries into the URL bar. To reassign these settings, users must first uninstall the browser hijacker (otherwise it will reassign settings when attempts are made to modify them).
Most browser hijackers promote the addresses of fake search engines, which are useless, since they generate no unique results and provide results generated by other search engines. In this case, srchbar.com redirects to search.yahoo.com (the Yahoo search engine).
Furthermore, browser hijackers and fake search engines usually collect details relating to users' browsing habits. For example, addresses of visited websites, geolocations, entered search queries, IP addresses, and so on. In some cases, PUAs also gather sensitive, personal details.
The people behind these apps share the details with other parties (potentially cyber criminals) who misuse them to generate revenue.
People who intentionally (or unintentionally) use browser hijackers and fake search engines are at risk of problems with privacy, browsing safety, or they can even become victims of identity theft. The best way to avoid this situation is to simply uninstall the browser hijacker (in this case, EasyWay).

EasyWay is very similar to My Mail Center, How To DIY, World Time News, and many other browser hijackers. Developers promote them as useful apps, offering various features, tools, and so on, however, they are used to trick people into downloading and installing PUAs.
How did EasyWay install on my computer?
EasyWay is available for download on a supposedly 'official website', however, most users install browser hijackers unintentionally when software developers use a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". EasyWay is included into the set-ups of other, regular software.
Offers to download and install PUAs are usually are selected by default and hidden in "Custom", "Advanced", and other options of the download/installation set-ups. PUAs are often installed when people leave these settings unchanged or when they click deceptive ads that cause unwanted downloads/installations through certain scripts.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Use trustworthy and official websites when downloading files or software. Do not trust other sources such as third party downloaders, Peer-to-Peer networks (torrent clients, eMule), dubious pages, etc. Check "Advanced", "Custom", "Manual", and other settings that are available in each setup, and deselect offers to install/download additional, unwanted apps.
Bear in mind that deceptive ads often lead to untrustworthy websites, especially those displayed on web pages relating to gambling, pornography, adult dating, and so on. To prevent your browser from displaying ads or opening dubious web pages, uninstall any unwanted extensions, add-ons, and plug-ins.
Additionally, remove all unwanted programs installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with EasyWay, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
