Uninstall BatBitRst adware
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is BatBitRst?
The exact purpose of BatBitRst is unknown, however, after installation, this app behaves as adware. This is a potentially unwanted application (PUA) that displays ads and possibly also records data. Typically, people download and install these applications unintentionally.
Adware is software that displays various advertisements such as coupons, banners, surveys, pop-up ads, and so on. These can be annoying, since they conceal underlying content of websites. Installed adware displays these ads on all sites visited. When clicked, they open other dubious websites or lead to unwanted downloads or installations (they run scripts to achieve this).
Furthermore, the BatBitRst app records IP addresses, URLs of visited web pages, search queries entered, geolocations, and other data relating to users' browsing habits. Some PUAs also collect personal, sensitive data. The developers of these apps share the information with other parties who might be cyber criminals.
Generally, they misuse private information to generate revenue. Installed adware apps can thus lead to problems with privacy, browsing safety, unwanted downloads/installations, etc. You are advised to uninstall BatBitRst and other adware immediately.

Other examples of adware include Ad Guardian, MessengerLite, and BWplayer. These apps are supposedly 'useful tools' - developers promote them by offering various features, and so on. In fact, adware simply generates revenue for the developers and provides no real value.
How did BatBitRst install on my computer?
People do not generally download and install adware or other PUAs intentionally. Unwanted downloads and installations usually happen through intrusive ads that run scripts or set-ups of other software. Developers often use the "bundling" method and include PUAs into download and installation set-ups of other software.
Typically, information regarding the presence of PUAs is hidden in settings such as "Custom", "Advanced", and other similar parts of the setup. Unwanted downloads and installations occur when people leave these settings unchanged, thereby granting PUAs permission to be downloaded and installed with regular software.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Do not click intrusive ads, even if they seem legitimate or tempting. Once clicked, they open untrustworthy websites. Ads displayed on web pages such as gambling, adult dating, pornography and so on, should never be trusted. Download files and programs from official websites.
Do not use third party downloaders, Peer-to-Peer networks, unofficial pages, and other similar channels. Do not download or install software without first checking "Advanced", "Custom" and other settings, and dismissing offers to download or install additional software.
If the browser opens dubious site or displays ads, uninstall any unwanted/suspicious extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons. The same applies to programs installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with BatBitRst, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this adware.
