Stop browser redirects to and from the clickworker.me website

Also Known As: clickworker.me pop-up
Damage level: Medium

What is clickworker[.]me?

Identical to viralupdatestoday.comcentral-messages.comchecking-in-progress.com, and many others, clickworker[.]me is a rogue site designed to display dubious content and redirect to other dubious websites.

Therefore, users end up visiting clickworker[.]me, since they are redirected by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) and intrusive advertisements displayed on other rogue sites. PUAs typically infiltrate systems without users’ permission. In addition to causing redirects, they deploy intrusive advertisements and gather sensitive data.

clickworker[.]me pop-up redirects

Following infiltration, PUAs force-open new browser tabs/windows and redirect to clickworker[.]me, which then redirects users even further (to other rogue websites) or displays certain dubious content - everything depends on the visitor's geolocation, which is determined by checking the IP address.

In any case, users might be presented with malicious content. Thus, visiting clickworker[.]me can lead to various system infections. As mentioned, PUAs also deliver coupons, banners, pop-ups, and other similar intrusive advertisements. These can redirect to dubious websites and some even run scripts designed to download/install unwanted applications.

Therefore, clicking them can also result in malware infiltration. Intrusive advertisements are delivered using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site. Therefore, they conceal underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience.

Be aware that PUAs are also likely to track browsing activity by gathering IP addresses, website URLs, viewed pages, search queries, and other similar data.

Collected information usually includes personal details that developers share with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who generate revenue by misusing private data. Thus, the presence of a data-tracking application can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. All PUAs should be eliminated immediately.

All PUAs are very similar. Most offer "useful functionality", however, these claims are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimacy. In fact, they have just one purpose: to generate revenue for the developers. They deliver no real value for regular users, cause redirects, deliver ads, and gather data.

How did adware install on my computer?

PUAs are usually spread using the aforementioned intrusive advertisements and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" - stealth installation of third party applications together with regular software. "Bundled" applications are typically hidden behind "Custom/Advanced" settings or other sections of the download/installation processes.

Furthermore, many users often rush these procedures and skip steps. In addition, they click various advertisements without understanding the possible consequences. This behavior can lead to inadvertent installation of third party applications.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

The main reasons for computer infections are poor knowledge of these threats and careless behavior. Caution is the key to safety. Therefore, pay attention during the download/installation processes and when browsing the Internet . Study each window of the download/installation dialogs using the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings.

Decline offers to download/install additional applications and cancel offers to download/install them. You are advised to download programs from official sources only, preferably using direct download links, since third party downloader/installers often include ("bundle") rogue apps.

Bear in mind that intrusive ads typically seem legitimate, since developers invest many resources into their design. In fact, most redirect to dubious sites such as pornography, gambling, adult dating, and similar.

If you experience these ads and unwanted redirects, check the list of installed applications and browser plug-ins and eliminate all suspicious entries. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?

Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.

Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
