Removal instructions for newsfrog.me ads and redirects
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is newsfrog[.]me?
newsfrog[.]me is a rogue website designed to feed users with dubious content and redirect them to other untrustworthy websites. It is virtually identical to bodlift.com, withingadvertly.pro, ughitilagu.info, and dozens of others.
Most users end up visiting newsfrog[.]me inadvertently - they are redirected by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) or intrusive advertisements delivered by other rogue sites. Furthermore, PUAs usually infiltrate computers without permission and, as well as causing redirects, continually record user-system information and deliver intrusive advertisements.
Potentially unwanted applications force-open new browser tabs/windows and redirect users to newsfrog[.]me, which then checks the user's IP address to determine the geolocation. This is to ascertain whether the user should be redirected even further or presented with certain content (or both).
In any case, users might encounter infectious content (delivered by newsfrog[.]me or other websites). Thus, redirects to and from newsfrog[.]me might result in various system infections. The same applies to intrusive advertisements. Potentially unwanted applications deliver banners, pop-ups, coupons, and other similar advertisements.
These might redirect to dubious websites or even execute scripts that download/install other potentially unwanted/malicious applications. Therefore, even a single accidental click can result in system infections. Intrusive advertisements are delivered using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site.
Therefore, they often conceal underlying content, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience. PUAs also gather information. They monitor web browsing activity by recording IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, and other similar data, which is shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) and misused to generate even more revenue.
Therefore, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. We strongly recommend that you uninstall all potentially unwanted applications immediately.

The internet is full of potentially unwanted applications, all of which share many similarities. By offering "useful features", PUAs trick users into believing that they are legitimate and useful programs. In fact, however, these applications have just one purpose: to generate revenue for the developers.
Rather than giving any real value for regular users, PUAs cause redirects, gather information, and deliver intrusive advertisements. They significantly diminish the browsing experience and pose a threat to your privacy and computer safety.
How did adware install on my computer?
Some PUAs have official download/promotion websites, however, most are promoted using intrusive advertisements and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" (stealth installation of third party applications together with regular software).
Developers hide "bundled" applications behind "Custom/Advanced" settings or other sections of the download/installation processes. Furthermore, many users often rush these procedures, skip steps, and click various advertisements without understanding the possible consequences - this behavior often leads to inadvertent installation of third party applications.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Lack of knowledge of these threats and careless behavior are the main reasons for computer infections. The key to computer safety is caution. Therefore, pay attention when browsing the Internet and downloading/installing software. Select "Custom/Advanced" settings and carefully analyze each window of the download/installation dialogs.
Opt-out of additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them. Avoid using third party downloaders/installers, since these tools are often monetized using the "bundling" method. Download your apps from official sources only, using direct download links.
Third party downloaders/installers often include rogue apps, and thus these tools should never be used. Developers invest many resources into intrusive ad design, thereby making them seem legitimate. Once clicked, however, they redirect to dubious websites (pornography, adult dating, survey, gambling, and similar).
If you encounter these ads/redirects, check the list of installed applications/browser plug-ins and eliminate all suspicious entries. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
