Up-date.to POP-UP Ads

What is up-date[.]to?
up-date[.]to is a rogue website designed to deliver dubious content and promote various applications. It shares many similarities with dozens of other rogue sites, such as rabsirolcalat.info, gatonsenropha.info, and tinhowsinutha.pro.
Users typically visit up-date[.]to inadvertently - they are redirected by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), which usually infiltrate computers without permission, and intrusive advertisements delivered by other rogue sites. PUAs cause unwanted redirects, deliver dubious content, and gather personal data.
up-date[.]to delivers content encouraging users to download certain applications. At time of research, it displayed a false message stating that the Adobe Flash Player software is outdated - it encourages users to update it immediately. Accepting this update leads to infiltration of adware/potentially unwanted applications and/or browser extensions.
Note that this site currently works only with the Mozilla Firefox web browser, however, there is a high probability that this site will be updated and will then work on all browsers. As mentioned above, PUAs deliver coupon, banner, pop-up, and other intrusive advertisements.
To achieve this, PUAs use various tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site, significantly diminish the browsing experience. Furthermore, these advertisements can redirect to malicious websites and even run scripts designed to download/install rogue/malicious apps.
Therefore, clicking them can result in various system infections. Another significant downside is information tracking. Potentially unwanted applications are notorious for recording information such as Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other data types.
Collected information is likely to contain personal details that developers share with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who generate revenue by misusing private data. Thus, having data-tracking apps installed can lead to privacy issues, including identity theft. You should uninstall all PUAs immediately.

The internet is full of potentially unwanted applications, all of which are virtually identical. By offering many "useful functions", these applications attempt to give the impression of legitimacy and trick users to install. In fact, most PUAs have just one purpose: to generate revenue for the developers, whilst regular users receive no real value.
PUAs cause unwanted redirects, deliver advertisements, and gather information. In doing so, they significantly diminish the browsing experience and pose a threat to your privacy and computer safety.
How did adware install on my computer?
Some potentially unwanted apps have official download websites, however, most infiltrate computers without users' consent, since developers proliferate them using intrusive advertisements and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling", which is essentially stealth installation of third party apps with regular (usually free) software.
Developers know that many users rush download/installation processes and skip steps. Therefore, all "bundled" apps are concealed behind "Custom/Advanced" settings (or other sections) of the download/installation processes. Furthermore, many users click advertisements and skip download/installation steps, often leading to inadvertent installation of rogue apps.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent this situation, be very cautious when browsing the Internet and downloading/installing software. Carefully analyze each download/installation step using the "Custom" or "Advanced" settings. Opt-out of additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them. Download software from official sources only, using direct download links.
Third party downloaders/installers often include rogue applications, and thus these tools should never be used. Bear in mind that intrusive advertisements often seem legitimate, however, once clicked, they redirect to dubious websites such as gambling, adult dating, pornography, etc. If your experience these ads/redirects, uninstall all suspicious applications and browser plug-ins.
Furthermore, update installed apps only through implemented functions or tools provided by the official developer. Criminals proliferate rogue applications/malware via fake updaters and, therefore, you should never trust sites such as up-date[.]to. The key to computer safety is caution.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
