Watch-this.live POP-UP Ads
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is watch-this[.]live?
watch-this[.]live is one of many rogue websites that cause redirects to other dubious, untrustworthy sites. It is virtually identical to a number of other websites of this type such as oraronerethet[.]info, newchannel[.]club, and hatnofort[.]com.
In most cases, people are forced to visit the site by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) that they have unintentionally installed on their computers (browsers). PUAs deliver intrusive ads and gather data relating to users' browsing habits.
Generally, PUAs open rogue websites such as watch-this[.]live in new browser windows or tabs. Once visited, this (or another similar) web page displays dubious content or causes redirects to other untrustworthy websites (about two or three). Its behaviour depends on the visitor's geolocation. The opened websites contain deceptive or even malicious content.
Another issue with PUAs is that most feed users with coupons, banners, surveys, pop-up ads, and other intrusive content. To display them, PUAs use tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site. Therefore, they conceal content of visited websites. Additionally, clicking them can lead to being redirected to other untrustworthy or even malicious websites.
If clicked, these ads might execute scripts designed to download and install even more potentially unwanted applications. Furthermore, PUAs gather information such as users' IP addresses, entered search queries, URLs of visited websites, geolocations, and so on.
Some of the recorded data might include personal details. Furthermore, PUAs developers share the data with other parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue. Therefore, remove all installed PUAs.

Most apps are presented as legitimate, useful tools that supposedly provide various features, however, most do not work as their developers promise.
In most cases, PUAs are designed only to gather data, cause redirects to dubious pages, and serve intrusive ads - this is to enable PUA developers to generate revenue. If installed, these apps might cause problems relating to browsing safety, privacy, or even identity theft.
How did adware install on my computer?
In some rare cases, these unwanted apps can be downloaded from their websites, however, in most cases, people install them unintentionally when they click intrusive ads or during download/installation of other software.
This happens when software developers use the "bundling" method to trick people into downloading/installing PUAs with other software by hiding them in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings of software set-ups. Therefore, information about the inclusion of PUAs into set-ups is not provided.
Unwanted downloads and installations occur when people click ads that cannot be trusted or when they download or install software and leave the settings unchanged.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download software from official websites and not using Peer-to-Peer networks such as torrent clients, eMule, other third party downloaders, unofficial websites, and so on. Check all setup settings such as "Advanced", "Custom" and deselect offers to download or install unwanted applications.
Furthermore, when clicked, most intrusive ads redirect people to potentially malicious websites. They are usually displayed on pages related to gambling, pornography, adult dating, and so on. If unwanted redirects or ads occur randomly and often, check for new and unwanted plug-ins, add-ons, and extensions installed on your browser and remove them.
The same applies to programs installed on the operating system. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.

How to avoid browser notification spam?
Internet users should be very skeptical when being asked to allow notifications. While this is a useful feature that allows you to receive timely news from websites you like, deceptive marketers frequently abuse it.
Only allow notifications from websites that you fully trust. For added security - use an anti-malware application with a real-time web browsing monitor to block shady websites that tries to trick you into allowing spam notifications. We recommend using Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows.
