Moocauby.com POP-UP Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is moocauby.com?
moocauby.com is a deceptive website designed to redirect users to other dubious sites and deliver content. It is virtually identical to a number of other websites of this type including lythenheckwo.info, time2notification.com, and appenzaeart.club.
Most visitors arrive at moocauby.com inadvertently - they are redirected by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) or intrusive advertisements. Potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) usually infiltrate computers without permission, cause redirects, deliver intrusive advertisements, and record data relating to users' browsing habits.
Unwanted apps force-open new browser tabs/windows and redirect users to moocauby.com. This website then displays certain content or redirects users elsewhere. Its behavior depends on the visitor's geolocation, which is determined by the Internet Protocol (IP) address. In any case, victims might encounter malicious content.
Thus, visiting moocauby.com can result in various system infections. The same applies to intrusive ads. Unwanted applications deliver coupons, banners, pop-ups, and other similar ads that redirect users to compromised websites and even run scripts designed to download/install malware. Therefore, clicking them can lead to various system infections.
Intrusive ads are delivered using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site. Therefore, they often conceal underlying content, thereby diminishing the browsing experience. PUAs are also notorious for data tracking. They record IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other browsing-relating information.
In some cases, PUAs record personal details that developers share with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse private data to generate revenue. Thus, having a data-tracking app installed on your computer might lead to privacy issues or even identity theft. Unwanted apps must be eliminated immediately.

Symptoms | Seeing advertisements not originating from the sites you are browsing. Intrusive pop-up ads. Decreased internet browsing speed. |
Distribution methods | Deceptive pop-up ads, free software installers (bundling), fake Flash Player installers. |

All potentially unwanted applications are very similar. By offering 'useful functions', they attempt to give the impression of legitimacy, however, few provide the functions promised. PUAs typically have just one purpose: to generate revenue for the developers.
Rather than giving any real value for regular users, they cause unwanted redirects, gather personal information, and deliver intrusive advertisements, thereby diminishing the browsing experience and posing a direct threat to your privacy and browsing safety.

How did adware install on my computer?
Some unwanted apps have official download websites, however, developers often proliferate them using intrusive advertisements and a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" (stealth installation of unwanted apps with regular software). Developers know that users often rush download/installation processes and skip steps.
Therefore, they hide "bundled" apps within "Custom/Advanced" settings (or other sections) of these processes. By clicking on various advertisements and skipping download/installation steps, many users expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To prevent this situation, be very cautious during the download/installation processes and when browsing the internet. Select "Custom/Advanced" settings and carefully analyze each window of the download/installation dialogs. Opt-out of additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them.
You are advised to download software from official sources only, using direct download links. Third party downloaders/installers should never be used, since developers monetize them using the "bundling" method (they promote PUAs). Also bear in mind that developers invest many resources into intrusive ad design, thereby making them appear legitimate.
Once clicked, however, they redirect to dubious websites. If you experience these ads and redirects, immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser plug-ins. The key to computer safety is caution. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
