Funkystreams.com Redirect

What is funkystreams.com?
funkystreams.com is a fake search engine that is very similar to many others this type including ciantel.com, initdex.com, and defendsearch.com.
This is supposedly a useful site that provides faster searches, more accurate search results, and so on. In fact, the main purpose of these fake search engines is to collect browsing-related information. Furthermore, funkystreams.com is promoted using rogue downloaders and installers that modify browser settings.
Generally, rogue download/installation set-ups target browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer. Their purpose is to change browser settings by assigning the default search engine, homepage, and new tab URL to funkystreams.com.
In addition, they often install browser applications called "helper objects" to prevent users from reverting the changes. If any attempts are made to undo the changes, "helper objects" immediately reassigns them to funkystreams.com.
Therefore, it is impossible to undo or change any of these modifications unless these browser apps are uninstalled, thus forcing users to visit funkystreams.com when a browser or new tab is opened or a search query is entered into the URL bar.
Furthermore, the funkystreams.com fake search engine and "helper objects" collect user-system information for their developers. Typically, these apps and search engines record data such as geo-locations, entered search queries, URLs of visited websites, IP addresses, and so on.
They also target personal/sensitive details that developers continually share with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse private information to generate revenue. People who use dubious search engines and have unwanted apps installed on their systems can experience problems with browsing safety/privacy and even identity theft.

There are countless fake search engines online and this number is growing daily. Most are presented as legitimate and useful, when in fact they only cause problems. They deliver no real benefits and are designed only to generate revenue for their developers.
Many fake search engines cause redirects to malicious websites, and thus using them can lead to computer infections.
How did funkystreams.com install on my computer?
When fake search engines (such as funkystreams.com) are promoted using rogue downloaders/installers that hijack browsers, developers have usually proliferated them using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling". They hide all information about changes to browser settings in "Advanced", "Custom", and other similar parts of the download/installation set-ups.
Note, however, that they only succeed when users perform various downloads and installations without paying attention to the details and leave available settings unchanged.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To avoid installation of unwanted applications and having browser settings changed, download software from official and trustworthy websites and using direct links. Do not use third party software downloaders or installers, unofficial websites, Peer-to-Peer networks, and other similar sources.
Installations should be handled carefully - check "Custom", "Advanced", and other settings, and deselect offers to download and install additional, unwanted software. Note that intrusive ads usually seem legitimate, but they should not be trusted, especially if displayed on dubious websites.
When clicked, these ads often redirect users to untrustworthy websites, such as gambling, pornography, adult dating, and so on. If you experience unwanted redirects and ads on many visited websites, check installed browser plug-ins, extensions, and add-ons.
Also check installed programs on your computer. Remove any unwanted or suspicious applications and programs. If your computer is already infected with browser hijackers, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate it.
