Search.tvnewtabsearch.com Redirect

What is search.tvnewtabsearch.com?
search.tvnewtabsearch.com is an example of the many fake search engines that can be found on the internet. It is presented as legitimate and useful, since developers offer an enhanced browsing experience, faster searches, more accurate search results, quick access to popular websites, and so on.
In fact, developers promote this site using a browser hijacker, a potentially unwanted application (PUA) called TVNewtab. Apps of this type adjust browser settings and gather various browsing-related data.
Browser hijackers usually target browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer. When installed, TVNewtab appoints search.tvnewtabsearch.com as the default search engine, homepage, and new tab URL. Users are then forced to visit this site unless this browser hijacker is uninstalled.
Therefore, users are redirected to search.tvnewtabsearch.com when a browser or new tab is opened, or when the URL bar is used to search. Note that search.tvnewtabsearch.com is a fake search engine that, if used, delivers results generated by Yahoo (a legitimate search engine).
When a search query is entered, search.tvnewtabsearch.com simply redirects users to search.yahoo.com. Furthermore, this fake search engine and the TVNewtab browser hijacker gather information such as IP addresses, geo-locations, search queries, URLs of visited websites, and so on. Furthermore, these apps and associated search engines often collect personal information.
PUA developers share the data with other parties (often, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue. Therefore, using dubious search engines and potentially unwanted apps can lead to privacy/browsing safety problems and even identity theft. We recommend that you uninstall TVNewtab and avoid using fake search engines.

As mentioned above, there are many fake search engines on the internet. Some other examples include feed.thegamesearcher.com, search.hprimesports.co, and search.searchipdf.com.
Typically, developers attempt to trick people into using these sites by promoting them as useful and legitimate, and offering and enhanced browsing experience, various features, etc. Unfortunately, few of these fake search engines operate as promised. They are designed only to generate revenue for the developers and provide no real benefit.
How did TVNewtab install on my computer?
PUAs apps are available for download from their supposedly 'official websites', and this is the case with TVNewtab, however, most apps of this type are installed through intrusive advertisements or when software developers use a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".
Bundling is a way to trick people into downloading and installing potentially unwanted applications together with regular software. They achieve this by neglecting to disclose information about the inclusion of PUAs into set-ups. Developers hide these applications in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar options/settings of software download or installation set-ups.
Note, however, that skipped software download/installation steps and clicked dubious ads are the main reasons for unintentional download and installation of PUAs.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Be careful when downloading and installing software, especially software that is free (freeware). Download it using official (trustworthy) websites or other sources, and using direct links. Do not use torrent clients, eMule (and other Peer-to-Peer networks), third party downloaders, unofficial websites, or other channels.
Sources of this type are often used to promote PUAs using the "bundling" method. Check all available "Custom", "Advanced" and other settings when going through the software download or installation steps. Deselect offers to download or install unwanted/unknown applications and only then complete the installation or download process.
Note that intrusive ads usually seem legitimate, however, they often redirect users who click them to untrustworthy websites such as gambling, adult dating, pornography, and so on. If you continually encounter unwanted redirects or ads appear on visited websites, check for suspicious, unwanted add-ons, extensions, and plug-ins installed on the browser and remove them.
The same applies to programs installed on your computer (operating system). If your computer is already infected with TVNewtab, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
