Baysearch.co Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is baysearch.co?
baysearch.co developers promote this fake search engine through an application called BaySearch Video. This app is movie-themed and supposedly provides users with the top online videos and movies directly from their web browsers.
Although promoted as a useful and legitimate app, BaySearch Video is categorized as a potentially unwanted application (PUA) and a browser hijacker. Users are often tricked into installing PUAs inadvertently. Furthermore, this app collects various browsing-related data and modifies browser settings.
Browser hijackers usually target Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer. If installed, BaySearch Video changes settings of the affected browser by assigning baysearch.co as the default search engine, homepage, and new tab URL.
In summary, users are forced to visit this website when they enter a search query into the URL bar or when they open their web browser or new tabs. Importantly, these changes cannot be undone as long as BaySearch Video is installed: it reassigns settings when attempts are made to change them.
By using the baysearch.co fake search engine, users risk computer infection with malicious programs - once a search query is entered, it causes redirects to untrustworthy (potentially malicious) websites.
As with most browser hijackers of this type, BaySearch Video also records browsing-related data such as IP addresses, search queries, URLs of visited websites, geo-locations, etc.
The information is shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue. We strongly advise that you avoid using any fake search engine or having browser hijackers such as BaySearch Video installed.

Many browser hijackers offer 'useful' features or tools. Other examples include StreamAll, mixSportTV Search Plus, and Severe Weather Check. Most developers promote them as legitimate apps, however, these are simply attempts to trick people into downloading and installing them.
These apps and their associated fake search engines provide none of the features promised, tools, or any other functionality. They are designed only to generate revenue for the developers.
How did Baysearch Video install on my computer?
BaySearch Video has an official website from which it can be downloaded, however, as with most apps of this type, they are often installed inadvertently without users' knowledge. To trick users into downloading/installing these apps without their knowledge, software developers use the "bundling" method, which stealthily includes PUAs in the set-ups of regular software.
Software developers hide these apps in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings (options) of the download/installation set-ups: information about the presence of these bundled apps is not properly disclosed.
Furthermore, users who skip download or installation processes (and leave settings unchanged) are often successfully tricked into downloading or installing unwanted applications.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download software using trustworthy and official sources only, especially if the software is free (freeware is often ad-supportive). Avoid using third party software downloaders and other similar sources to download software. Install software with care, check all "Advanced", "Custom", and other similar options/settings, and opt-out of offers to install unwanted apps.
Bear in mind that many intrusive advertisements redirect to gambling, adult dating, pornography, and other untrustworthy/dubious websites. If you experience these redirects, check installed extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons on your browser, and programs on your computer.
Uninstall any suspicious/unwanted entries immediately. If your computer is already infected with Baysearch Video, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
