Max Driver Updater Unwanted Application
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Max Driver Updater?
According to developers, Max Driver Updater updates outdated drivers. This may seem to be a legitimate and useful application, however, it is also categorized as potentially unwanted application (PUA). As with most apps of this type, Max Driver Updater is promoted using the "bundling" method and is usually installed without users' knowledge.
When the driver scan is complete, Max Driver Updater displays a number of out-of-date drivers that supposedly need updating. The 'free version' of Max Driver Updater is only capable of scanning the system for outdated drivers, but not updating them. Users are thus encouraged to purchase the 'full version'.
Note, however, that most apps of this type (installed using the "bundling" method) display fake results. It is likely that no drivers require updating, and the results indicating outdated drivers are displayed only to trick users into purchasing the so-called full version. These applications commonly deliver none of the functionality promised even if the 'full version' is purchased.
Do not purchase the full version of this software. Uninstall it immediately. In many cases, "bundling" includes more than one application, and so it is possible that Max Driver Updater came together with other PUAs such as adware or browser hijackers.
Applications of this type deliver intrusive ads and collect information. Check your system for PUAs of this type and uninstall them.
WinZip Driver Updater, Driver Maximizer, and DriverDoc are some examples from many similar or identical potentially unwanted applications.
Most of these apps are promoted as 'useful' and supposedly provide features or tools, however, they deliver none of the functionality promised and are designed only to generate revenue for their developers by delivering ads, causing redirects, collecting data, and promoting in-app purchases.
How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?
Max Driver Updater can be downloaded from its official website, however, as mentioned above, most PUAs are installed when software developers proliferate them using the "bundling" method. "Bundling" is stealth installation of PUAs with regular software.
Software developers avoid disclosing information regarding bundled apps and hide PUAs in "Advanced", "Custom", and other similar settings or options of the installation processes. PUA developers are aware that users often skip installation steps without checking the aforementioned settings, and they use this to their advantage.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Browse the web and download/install software with caution. Use official and trustworthy sources to download software. Avoid third party software downloaders, installers, and torrent clients. Do not skip installation steps without carefully studying them first.
Check all available "Custom", "Advanced" and other settings/options of the installation processes and opt-out of unwanted software/offers. Only then finish the installation. Ad developers (often, cyber criminals) invest time and money into ad design.
They may seem legitimate, but often redirect users to unwanted/untrustworthy websites such as gambling, pornography, adult dating, etc. If you encounter these redirects, check your browser for unwanted or unknown extensions, add-ons, and plug-ins (depending on the browser).
If you find any suspicious entries installed on your browser or computer, uninstall them immediately. If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Malwarebytes for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
