Globaladmedia.net POP-UP Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is globaladmedia.net?
Similar or identical to others of this type (such as newsupdateunit.info, pog0da.com, adx1.com, and many others), globaladmedia.net is a rogue website designed to redirect its visitors to other untrustworthy sites. Users generally visit globaladmedia.net unintentionally.
In most cases, they are redirected to it by potentially unwanted applications (PUAs) that are often installed inadvertently. PUAs also deliver intrusive ads and gather information.
When installed, PUAs randomly open new browser windows/tabs and force users to visit globaladmedia.net, which then redirects to other (about 2-3) untrustworthy websites. At least one of these sites will contain malicious content and might cause high-risk computer infections.
As mentioned above, most PUAs deliver intrusive ads such as coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and so on. They are delivered by PUAs and displayed via tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site and conceal underlying content.
Clicking these ads redirects users to other untrustworthy websites or runs scripts that download and install potentially unwanted applications (possibly malicious). Many PUAs collect user-system information, such as IP addresses, keystrokes, search queries, geo-locations, URLs of visited websites, and so on.
PUA developers share this information with third parties (potentially cyber criminals) who misuse private data to generate revenue.
Furthermore, the data might contain personal or sensitive details. Therefore, users often experience privacy or browsing safety issues, or even more serious problems such as identity theft. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you uninstall all PUAs immediately.
Name | globaladmedia.net pop-up |
Threat Type | Adware, Unwanted ads, Pop-up Virus |
Symptoms | Seeing advertisements not originating from the sites you are browsing. Intrusive pop-up ads. Decreased Internet browsing speed. |
Distribution methods | Deceptive pop-up ads, free software installers (bundling), fake flash player installers. |
Damage | Decreased computer performance, browser tracking - privacy issues, possible additional malware infections. |
Malware Removal (Windows) | To eliminate possible malware infections, scan your computer with legitimate antivirus software. Our security researchers recommend using Combo Cleaner. |
Most PUAs are virtually identical. Their purpose is to trick users into downloading them by giving the impression of legitimacy and offering various 'useful' features. Few PUAs provide the functionality promised. They simply cause problems by forcing unwanted redirects, deploying intrusive ads, and recording information.
How did adware install on my computer?
Some PUAs have official sites where they can downloaded, however, most users often install them inadvertently through intrusive ads or the "bundling" method, which is often used by PUA developers. Bundling is stealth installation of third party applications with regular (usually free and ad-supportive) software.
Typically, developers do not disclose information about installation of PUAs properly and they hide them in "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings of software installation dialogs. Clicking intrusive ads and skipping software installation steps usually leads to inadvertent installation of PUAs, or even leads to privacy problems or more serious issues.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Download/install software and browse the web with care. Download software (especially free/ad-supportive) using official and trustworthy sources and direct links. Avoid using third party software downloaders, torrents, or other similar sources.
Do not rush software installation - check "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar settings/options (the same applies to checkboxes ticked by default). If there are any "special offers", tools or other additional applications included, deselect them before you finish the installation process.
If you encounter intrusive ads that redirect you to untrustworthy websites (gambling, pornography, adult dating and so on), check the list of installed applications (add-ons, plug-ins, extensions) on your browsers and remove any unknown or unwanted entries immediately.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
