Perfect PC Cleanup Unwanted Application
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Perfect PC Cleanup?
Similar to Cosmos System Care, My Sys Mechanic, and many others, Perfect PC Cleanup is a dubious app presented as a high quality system cleaning tool.
Judging on appearance alone, Perfect PC Cleanup may seem legitimate and useful, however, this app often infiltrates systems without permission, since developers promote it using the "bundling" method. Therefore, Perfect PC Cleanup is categorized as a potentially unwanted application (PUA).
Perfect PC Cleanup's features supposedly allow users to free-up computer space by cleaning junk files. The 'free' version of this tool is apparently incapable of this functionality, and so users are encouraged to pay for an activation key. Note, however, that it is currently unknown whether Perfect PC Cleanup can be trusted.
Research shows that many "bundled" system optimization/anti-virus programs are fake. They feed users with false scan results just to trick them into purchasing software that is not required. There is a high probability that Perfect PC Cleanup is one of these rogue applications. Therefore, consider uninstalling this app.
Note also that "bundling" is often used to distribute several unwanted applications at once. In most cases, these apps are categorized as adware and browser hijackers. They deliver intrusive advertisements, cause unwanted redirects, and gather sensitive information.
Therefore, as well as uninstalling Perfect PC Cleanup, you should eliminate all other dubious applications/browser plug-ins.
Name | Perfect PC Cleanup potentially unwanted application |
Threat Type | PUP (potentially unwanted program), PUA (potentially unwanted application) |
Symptoms | A program that you don't recall installing suddenly appeared on your computer. New application is performing computer scans and displays warning messages about found issues. Asks for payment in order to eliminate the supposedly found errors. |
Distribution methods | Deceptive pop-up ads, free software installers (bundling), fake flash player installers. |
Damage | Monetary loss (unnecessary purchase of fake software), unwanted warning pop-ups, slow computer performance. |
Malware Removal (Windows) | To eliminate possible malware infections, scan your computer with legitimate antivirus software. Our security researchers recommend using Combo Cleaner. |
Most potentially unwanted applications are very similar. By offering "useful features", they attempt to give the impression of legitimacy, however, they deliver no real value for regular users. Unwanted applications typically have only one purpose: to generate revenue for developers.
Rather than giving any real value for regular users, many PUAs record information, deliver intrusive advertisements, and cause unwanted redirects, thereby posing a direct threat to your privacy and browsing safety.
How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?
Research shows that although Perfect PC Cleanup has an official download website, it often infiltrates systems without permission, since developers proliferate it using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" - stealth installation of third party applications together with regular software/apps.
Developers hide "bundled" apps within "Custom/Advanced" settings (or other sections) of the download/installation processes - they are not honest enough disclose this information properly. Furthermore, many users rush these procedures and skip steps. In doing so, they expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Select "Custom/Advanced" settings and carefully analyze each download/installation step. During the process, opt-out of additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them. We recommend that you download your applications from official sources only, using direct download links.
Third party downloaders/installers often include rogue apps, and thus these tools should not be used. Potentially unwanted applications are distributed using intrusive advertisements that redirect to malicious websites and execute scripts that download and install unwanted apps (or even high-risk malware).
Most seem legitimate, since developers invest time and resources into their design. In fact, they redirect to dubious websites (gambling, adult dating, pornography, and so on) and most are delivered by adware-type PUAs. If you encounter dubious redirects, uninstall suspicious applications and browser plug-ins.
The main reasons for computer infections are poor knowledge and careless behavior. The key to safety is caution. If your computer is already infected with PUAs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
