Mysearchplus.co Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is mysearchplus.co?
mysearchplus.co is a fake search engine that supposedly enhances the browsing experience by generating improved results. Judging on appearance alone, mysearchplus.co may seem legitimate and useful, however, this website is proliferated using a browser-hijacking application called My Search Plus.
Furthermore, mysearchplus.co and My Search Plus record data relating to browsing habits. Therefore, mysearchplus.co is categorized as a potentially unwanted application (PUA) and a browser hijacker.
My Search Plus targets the most popular web browsers (Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox). Following infiltration, it assigns the new tab URL, default search engine, and homepage options to mysearchplus.co. These changes may seem insignificant, however, users are unable to revert them.
My Search Plus continues to reassign browser options when attempts are made to change them. Therefore, returning browsers to their previous states becomes impossible and users are encouraged to visit mysearchplus.co when they open a new browser tab or search via the URL bar.
This significantly diminishes the browsing experience. Note that after entering a search query into mysearchplus.co, users are redirected to search.yahoo.com (a legitimate web search engine). Therefore, users end up searching the web via Yahoo, thus making mysearchplus.co useless.
Both mysearchplus.co and My Search Plus continually monitor browsing activity by recording IP addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, etc. The information typically includes personal details that developers share with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who generate revenue by misusing private data.
Therefore, information tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. If you encounter redirects to mysearchplus.co, immediately eliminate the My Search Plus browser hijacker and never return to this site.

The Internet is full of fake search engines that share similarities with mysearchplus.co. For example, feed.incognitosearches.com, findter.com, go.bonefreeze.com, medianewpagesearch.com, and many others.
By offering improved results and, sometimes, other "useful features" (quick access to popular websites, local weather forecasts, latest worldwide news, etc.), fake search engines attempt to trick users into believing that these sites are legitimate and useful. Note that the only purpose of websites such as mysearchplus.co is to generate revenue for the developers.
Rather than giving any real value for regular users, these sites cause unwanted redirects and gather data. In addition, some fake search engines generate misleading results and intrusive ads (coupons, banners, etc.). These typically lead to dubious websites. Use fake search engines might thus lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft.
How did My Search Plus install on my computer?
My Search Plus has an official download/promotion website, however, these apps are very likely to infiltrate systems without consent, since developers proliferate them using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" and intrusive advertisements. "Bundling" is essentially stealth installation of third party software with regular apps.
Developers do not disclose rogue app installations properly. They are hidden within "Custom/Advanced" settings (or other sections) of the download/installation processes. Intrusive advertisements redirect to malicious websites and run scripts that stealthily download and install potentially unwanted applications (or even high-risk malware).
Furthermore, many users often rush these procedures and skip steps. In doing so, they expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Lack of knowledge and careless behavior are the main reasons for computer infections. Caution is the key to safety. Therefore, to prevent system infiltration by potentially unwanted applications, be very cautious when downloading/installing software, and browsing the Internet in general.
Select "Custom/Advanced" settings and carefully analyze each step of the download/installation processes. Opt-out of additionally-included applications and decline offers to download/install them. We recommend that you avoid using third party downloaders/installers, since developers monetize them by promoting ("bundling") PUAs.
Software should be downloaded from official sources only, using direct download links. Furthermore, remember that criminals invest many resources into intrusive ad design, thereby making them seem legitimate. Once clicked, however, the ads redirect to dubious websites (gambling, adult dating, pornography, and so on).
Most are delivered using adware-type applications. If you encounter these advertisements, immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with My Search Plus, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
