Adxml.click POP-UP Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is adxml.click?
adxml.click is one of many rogue websites (virtually identical to tbrcv.pro, poptraff.com, and alopoy.com) designed to trigger redirects to other untrustworthy websites.
Most users do not visit adxml.click intentionally - they are redirected by potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) that are installed without users' consent, deliver intrusive ads, diminish computer performance, and gather data.
Once installed, potentially unwanted programs force browsers to open new windows or tabs and redirect users to the adxml.click site, which then triggers additional (typically 2-3) redirects to other untrustworthy sites that might contain malicious content. These redirects can result in high-risk computer infections.
Furthermore, potentially unwanted programs gather information such as geo-locations, search queries, visited websites, keystrokes, IP addresses, etc. These details might be sensitive or personally identifiable and shared with third parties (potentially cyber criminals) and used to generate revenue.
These actions can cause various problems such as privacy issues or even identity theft. Furthermore, PUPs deliver ads, such as pop-ups, banners, coupons, surveys, etc. that are displayed via tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site (thereby concealing underlying content).
When these ads are clicked, they triggers redirects to dubious/untrustworthy or potentially malicious websites. In some cases, they even execute scripts that download and install potentially unwanted programs.
In addition to information tracking, delivering ads and causing redirects, PUPs misuse computer resources by running various background tasks. In doing so, they affect computer performance. Clearly, there are a number of reasons why you should uninstall potentially unwanted programs immediately.
Name | adxml.click pop-up |
Threat Type | Adware, Unwanted ads, Pop-up Virus |
Symptoms | Seeing advertisements not originating from the sites you are browsing. Intrusive pop-up ads. Decreased Internet browsing speed. |
Distribution methods | Deceptive pop-up ads, free software installers (bundling), fake flash player installers. |
Damage | Decreased computer performance, browser tracking - privacy issues, possible additional malware infections. |
Malware Removal (Windows) | To eliminate possible malware infections, scan your computer with legitimate antivirus software. Our security researchers recommend using Combo Cleaner. |
Most potentially unwanted programs are virtually identical: they offer "useful features"/tools and claim to be legitimate programs. Few deliver any real value for regular users or the functionality promised. Generally, PUPs have only just one purpose: to generate revenue for the developers. Installed PUPs pose a direct threat to your privacy and Internet browsing safety.
How did adware install on my computer?
Many potentially unwanted programs can be downloaded from their official websites, however, they are usually installed using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" (stealth installation of potentially unwanted programs with other regular software/applications).
Developers of this software do not disclose these installations properly and hide bundled programs in "Advanced", "Custom" settings (or other options) of installation processes. Many users tend to click various ads, even when visiting untrustworthy websites.
Therefore, due to the lack of knowledge and careless behaviour of many users, PUPs often infiltrate systems without their knowledge or consent.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Now that you know how PUPs infiltrate systems, it is easier to understand how to avoid them. Download software from official sources (websites). Avoid using torrents and third party software downloaders. Do not skip software installation steps - check all available settings such as "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar options of the installation process.
If you clicked suspicious advertisements when browsing the web and they caused redirects to pornography, adult dating, gambling or other untrustworthy websites, immediately eliminate all dubious programs, browser add-ons, extensions, and plug-ins.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
