Medialink.mobi POP-UP Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is medialink.mobi?
medialink.mobi is a rogue website (virtually identical to ads.dlvr.live, namel.net, fresh-info.news and many others) that redirects visitors to other untrustworthy websites. Most users do not visit medialink.mobi willingly - they are redirected to the site via potentially unwanted programs (PUPs).
These programs are often installed inadvertently, cause redirects, deliver intrusive advertisements, and misuse system resources.
When installed, a potentially unwanted program forces browsers to open new windows/tabs and redirects users to the medialink.mobi rogue website, which then redirects to other (typically 2-3) untrustworthy and potentially malicious websites. This can cause high-risk computer infections.
Furthermore, potentially unwanted programs collect data such as geo-locations, keystrokes, visited websites, search queries, IP addresses, etc. It is very likely that some of this data will be sensitive or personally identifiable, and shared with third parties (potentially cyber criminals) to generate revenue. These processes could result in privacy issues or even identity theft.
Potentially unwanted programs deliver intrusive ads including coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and so on. Once clicked, they redirect users to other unwanted and potentially malicious websites. Some are capable of executing scripts that download and install potentially unwanted programs.
Furthermore, these intrusive ads can be annoying and frustrating, since they are displayed using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site (and conceal underlying content).
Finally, some PUPs can run various background tasks/processes, thus affecting computer performance. You are advised to uninstall all potentially unwanted programs immediately.

All potentially unwanted programs of this type are very similar (or even identical), and in most cases offer "useful" tools, features, etc., and claim to be legitimate apps. In fact, their purpose is to trick users into downloading and installing them. Developers then generate revenue by redirects to unwanted websites, collecting information regarding browsing habits, and deploying intrusive ads.
How did adware install on my computer?
Potentially unwanted programs can be downloaded from their official websites, however, these programs often infiltrate systems without users' knowledge. Developers promote PUPs using intrusive ads or a deceptive marketing method called "bundling".
They hide "bundled" apps within "Custom", "Advanced" options/settings, or other sections of the download/installation processes and do not disclose "bundled" PUPs installations properly. In summary, clicking advertisements and skipping download and installation steps often leads to inadvertent/unintentional installation of potentially unwanted programs.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Do not download software from unofficial/untrustworthy websites using third party software downloaders/installers or torrents. Use only official and trustworthy websites/sources. Install software by carefully studying each installation step. Check "Advanced", "Custom" and other similar settings for any unwanted offers or features.
Deselect unwanted items and only then proceed to the next installation step. Avoid clicking intrusive ads - they may seem legitimate, but once clicked, can redirect to gambling, adult dating, pornography, and other dubious sites. If you have encountered such redirects, check your browser and uninstall all dubious extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons.
Also check if there are any unwanted programs installed on your computer. If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
