Ilowcost.ru POP-UP Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is ilowcost.ru?
ilowcost.ru is a rogue website identical to clckads.org, videojosmooth.com, check-this-out-now.online, and many others of this type.
All cause redirects to untrustworthy and potentially malicious websites. As a rule, users visit ilowcost.ru inadvertently - potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) cause redirects to it. PUPs are often installed without users' consent and, in addition to the aforementioned redirects, deliver intrusive ads, misuse system resources, and collect data.
Following infiltration, potentially unwanted programs open new browser tabs and windows and force users to visit the ilowcost.ru rogue website, which then redirects to other (typically 2-3) untrustworthy websites that might contain malicious content. It is risky to visit these websites, since they can lead to high-risk computer infections.
Furthermore, PUPs deliver intrusive ads (banners, coupons, pop-ups, surveys, etc.) that can be distracting - they are displayed via tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site (and conceal underlying content). Furthermore, once clicked, they can cause redirects to other untrustworthy websites or even execute scripts that download and install software.
Potentially unwanted programs also collect data (such as IP addresses, keystrokes, search queries, visited websites, geo-locations, etc.) Some data might contain personally identifiable information or some other sensitive details that are shared with third parties (potentially cyber criminals) and used to generate revenue.
Information tracking can lead to privacy issues or even identity theft. Additionally, some potentially unwanted programs are capable of running various background processes that can affect computer performance. We recommend that you eliminate these rogue programs from your computer or web browser immediately.

There are many potentially unwanted programs available on the Internet, all of which offer various "useful" features and tools. They claim to be legitimate, but in most cases they deliver none of the functionality promised and are used only to generate revenue by providing ads, causing redirects, and collecting data.
How did adware install on my computer?
It is possible to download potentially unwanted programs from their official websites, however, they are commonly installed through intrusive ads or together with regular software. Developers often hide PUPs in "Advanced", "Custom", and other options of the installation processes and barely disclose information about additional potentially unwanted programs.
It is possible to avoid installation of PUPs, however, many users skip the installation steps, thus allowing them to be installed inadvertently.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
To avoid installation of potentially unwanted programs, remember to download software from official and trustworthy websites only. Avoid using third party software downloaders and torrents. As a rule, third party downloaders are monetized by promoting potentially unwanted programs.
When installing software, check "Custom", "Advanced" and other similar options, and deselect unwanted software or other extra offers. Only then finish the installation process. Avoid clicking intrusive ads, even if they appear legitimate. Some redirect users to malicious (or other unwanted) websites.
If you clicked on one of these ads and were redirected to gambling, adult dating, pornography, or other suspicious websites, check your browser and remove any unwanted/suspicious entries (extensions, plug-ins, and add-ons). The same applies to programs installed on your computer.
If your computer is already infected with rogue applications, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate them.
