Super VPN Unwanted Application (Mac)
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is Super VPN?
Super VPN (also known as super-vpn) is a deceptive app that falsely claims to provide VPN functionality. Initially, this app may seem legitimate and useful, however, Super VPN is categorized as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) and adware.
There are three main reasons for these negative associations: 1) stealth installation without users' consent; 2) tracking of web browsing activity, and; 3) display of intrusive advertisements.
Research shows that Super VPN records user-system information relating to web browsing activity. Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, website URLs visited, pages viewed, search queries, and other recorded data usually includes personal details.
In addition, developers share this information with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse private data to generate revenue. Therefore, the presence of a data-tracking app such as Super VPN can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. Super VPN continually delivers intrusive advertisements, such as coupons, banners, pop-ups, and so on.
These are delivered using tools that enable placement of third party graphical content on any site. Therefore, intrusive ads often conceal underlying website content, thereby significantly diminishing the browsing experience. Furthermore, intrusive ads might redirect to malicious sites and execute scripts designed to download and install malware.
Therefore, even a single accidental click cab result in high-risk computer infections. For these reasons, we strongly advise you to uninstall Super VPN adware immediately.

There are dozens of adware-type applications similar to Super VPN. The list of examples includes (but it is not limited to) UnzipPro, MyShopcoupon, CompariShop, and MacBright. All offers a type of "useful functionality", however, these programs are designed only to generate revenue for the developers.
Claims to enable 'useful functions' are merely attempts to give the impression of legitimacy. They provide no real value for regular users. Adware-type PUPs gather sensitive information and deliver intrusive advertisements, thereby posing a direct threat to your privacy and Internet browsing safety.
How did Super VPN install on my computer?
Super VPN is free for anyone to download on its official website, however, due to the lack of knowledge and careless behavior of many users, this PUP often infiltrates systems without users’ permission. Developers proliferate Super VPN using a deceptive marketing method called "bundling" and intrusive advertisements.
"Bundling" is essentially stealth installation of third party applications together with regular software/apps. Developers do not adequately disclose PUP installations. Therefore, "bundled" programs are concealed within various section (in most cases, "Custom" or "Advanced" settings) of the download/installation processes.
Furthermore, many users often skip download/installation steps and click various advertisements - behavior that can cause inadvertent installation of PUPs such as Super VPN. In this way, many users expose their systems to risk of various infections and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Caution is the key to computer safety. Therefore, be very cautious when downloading/installing software and browsing the Internet. Select "Custom" or "Advanced" settings and carefully analyze each window of the download/installation dialogs. In doing so, cancel all additionally-included programs and decline offers to download/install them.
We also advise you to avoid using third party download/installation tools, since developers monetize them by promoting PUPs (the "bundling" method). Software should be downloaded from official sources only, using direct download links. Furthermore, bear in mind that intrusive advertisements typically seem legitimate, since developers invest many resources into their design.
In fact, they usually lead to dubious websites, such as gambling, adult dating, and so on. If you experience these redirects, eliminate all dubious applications and browser plug-ins. If your computer is already infected with PUPs, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for macOS to automatically eliminate them.
