What is search.thenewssource.co?
search.thenewssource.co is a search engine that arrives at your web browser as an add-on or extension, an extra component called My Email XP. Email XP is software distributed by Polarity Technologies LTD - a browser hijacker that sets the home page to search.thenewssource.co and allows you to access email (Gmail or Yahoo) with one-click from the home and new tab pages.
The search engine has two search boxes and various icons with links to websites such as amazon.com, terraarcade.com, addictinggames.com, roblox.com, and bigfishgames.com. You can also access the nationalweatheragency.org website by clicking the Local Weather button (you can see current local weather beside it).
Additionally, it has a menu whereby you can find links to Skincraft and Minecraft. When entering an enquiry into a search box and pressing the search button, you are redirected to the search.yahoo.com website (a search engine owned by Yahoo).
The search.thenewssource.co browser hijacker targets all major web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Safari and Mozilla Firefox. Once installed, it takes control over the browser by changing the default home page and/or new tabs of the browser by adding alternative error page functionality and search-related services.
It also allows first-party publisher or partner cookies to be installed on the browser. As mentioned above, it installs itself as an Email XP extension or add-on (depending on the browser).
In Google Chrome and Safari, for example, it is installed as an extension, whilst it is installed as an add-on with Mozilla Firefox. Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer are different cases - here, it is installed directly into the Windows operating system.

There are many browser hijackers on the internet, including search.thenewssource.co Each may appear different and have various useful "features", however, the purposes of all browser hijackers remains identical - they claim to be legitimate search engines, collect information about online behaviour, and generate revenue.
None of the so-called features will bring you any real value. In fact, they will simply cause issues by providing misleading redirects, unwanted ads, and burden your overall browsing experience. Furthermore, they can create problems such as computer infections and increased vulnerability to hacker attacks.
How did The News Source install on my computer?
In most cases, browser hijackers such as search.thenewssource.co are installed together with freeware or shareware programs - they are 'bundled' with software you may wish to install and offered as part of the package.
This usually happens when users take the quickest route to install a particular program without paying attention - agreeing to various statements and jumping through the software installation steps. It could also arrive as a 'special offer' to which you willingly (but not knowingly) agreed to, and then received unwanted extras.
These browser hijackers are also sometimes installed through downloaded torrents or email attachments. They often do not have removal instructions and so are difficult to eliminate. This is not the case with this hijacker (you can find removal instructions on the search engine homepage)
. If you are using Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer, you have probably installed this browser hijacker through a Software Download Manager. If you are using another popular web browser, you might willingly or accidentally clicked the "Add extension" or other similar button (depending on the web browser).
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Browser hijackers are not new, but remember to pay attention as to what and how you are installing. Download and install various software carefully, especially if it is free. Avoid jumping through installation steps. Study each checkbox that could indicate that you are accepting unwanted software.
These checkboxes are usually checked by default - this is the most common way to trick users into installing browser hijackers. Do not click pop-up ads or suspicious "Download" buttons (and other buttons), check custom or advanced options if there are any. Also, try to avoid unofficial download sources and third-party downloaders (software download managers, and so on).
Today, it is becoming increasingly difficult to avoid unwanted applications. Furthermore, careless behaviour and poor knowledge of these threats are the main reasons for computer infection.
Our advice is to pay attention and express caution. If your computer is already infected with The News Source, we recommend running a scan with Combo Cleaner Antivirus for Windows to automatically eliminate this browser hijacker.
