Tudonav.com Redirect
Written by Tomas Meskauskas on (updated)
What is tudonav.com?
tudonav.com is another fake search engine that supposedly enhances the browsing experience by generating improved results and providing quick access to various popular websites.
Judging on appearance alone, tudonav.com may seem legitimate and useful, however, this site is promoted using rogue download/installation set-ups that modify browser options without consent. Furthermore, note that tudonav.com gathers various information relating to users' Internet browsing activity.
Rogue set-ups target Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. Following infiltration, they assign tudonav.com as the new tab URL, default search engine, and homepage browser options. In addition, set-ups stealthily install a number of third party applications and browser plug-ins (so-called "helper objects").
Although these changes may seem insignificant, users are unable to revert them. Research shows that these apps and add-ons reassign browser settings when attempts are made to change them.
Therefore, returning browsers to their previous states becomes impossible and users are encouraged to visit tudonav.com when they open a new browser tab or search via the URL bar. These redirects significantly diminish the browsing experience. Be aware that tudonav.com (and "helper objects") continually records information that might be personally identifiable.
Once recorded, this information is shared with third parties (potentially, cyber criminals) who misuse it to generate revenue. Therefore, data tracking can lead to serious privacy issues or even identity theft. If you encounter redirects to tudonav.com, immediately remove all suspicious applications and browser plug-ins.

tudonav.com shares many similarities with qogotte.com, bronav.com, qip.ru, and dozens of other fake search engines. By offering improved results and various other "useful features" (weather forecasts, latest news, shortcuts to popular sites, etc.) websites such as tudonav.com attempt to give the impression of legitimacy, however, their only purpose is to generate revenue for the developers.
Rather than delivering any real value for regular users, fake search engines cause unwanted redirects and gather sensitive information. Some even generate misleading results and intrusive advertisements (coupons, banners, etc.) Research shows that they typically redirect to malicious websites. Therefore, using fake search engines risks various computer infections.
How did tudonav.com install on my computer?
As mentioned above, tudonav.com is promoted using rogue downloaders/installers. This deceptive marketing method is called "bundling". Developers know that users often rush download/installation processes and skip steps.
Therefore, they hide information regarding modification of browser settings within "Custom/Advanced" options (or other sections) of the download/installation. By rushing and skipping steps, many users inadvertently grant set-ups permission to modify settings, expose their systems to risk of various infections, and compromise their privacy.
How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?
Potentially unwanted programs are distributed using the "bundling" method and intrusive advertisements (which lead to malicious websites and execute scripts that stealthily download and install malware). Therefore, to prevent PUP infiltration, be very cautious when browsing the Internet and downloading/installing software.
Bear in mind that intrusive advertisements typically seem legitimate, since developers invest many resources into their design. Once clicked, however, they redirect to dubious websites (gambling, adult dating, pornography, and similar). Most are delivered by adware-type PUPs. If you experience suspicious redirects, remove all dubious applications and browser plug-ins.
You are strongly advised to carefully analyze each window of the download/installation dialogs and opt-out of all additionally-included programs.
Download apps only from official sources only, using direct download links. Third party downloaders/installers are monetized by promoting ("bundling") PUPs, and thus should never be used. The key to computer safety is caution.
